Etheridge has two children with her former partner Julie Cypher.
Singer Melissa Etheridge has revealed that she almost asked Brad Pitt to be a sperm donor for her and former partner Julie Cypher in the late nineties. Speaking on Australia’s Studio 10 talk show, the 54-year-old explained how she nearly approached Pitt before asking singer David Crosby.
Melissa Etheridge says she considered Brad Pitt as a sperm donor.
“Well, actually, [Brad Pitt] was such a good friend of mine. And we did consider it. And yet, I looked and I saw how badly he wanted children and I thought, ‘I don’t want to share this with someone who really, badly wants children because my children don’t need another parent — they have two,’” Etheridge said.
“Of course, my teenagers now are like, ‘I could have had Brad Pitt [as my dad]!’ My son said, ‘I could’ve been amazingly handsome!’” she added. The singer went on to explain why she chose Crosby, Stills & Nash member David Crosby to be the father.
“It’s one of the reasons why David Crosby and his wife are so perfect — because they’ve had children,” Etheridge explained. “They were looking to do this as a gift … And my children are lovely and gorgeous anyway.”
Etheridge and Cypher revealed Crosby was the father of their two children in the cover of Rolling Stone in 2000, the couple split shortly after the issue was released. Etheridge went on to date actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, with whom she had twins in 2006.
