'Suicide Squad 2' is well on its way to fruition and it has just been revealed that a number of directors have been approached to helm the movie - including Mel Gibson. Both DC and Gibson fans have reacted with surprise, because his involvement way well turn the film franchise on its head.

While they’re currently enjoying their mutual success in the Oscar-nominated war movie Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn will be teaming up once again for an upcoming crime thriller concerning police brutality, titled Dragged Across Concrete.

Bone Tomahawk’s S Craig Zahler will direct the project, with Keith Kjarval of United Pictures and Assemble Media’s Jack Heller on joint production. The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the details of the film, says it will be introduced to buyers at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

Mel Gibson and girlfriend Rosalind Ross have welcomed their first child together, a baby boy named Lars Gerard Gibson.

Lars was born Friday, Jan. 20, in Los Angeles and weighed in at 5 lbs. 5 oz, he is the ninth child for 61 year old Gibson, but the first for Ross, 26.

While appearing on TV to talk about his new movie, Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson reflected on his personal life. Currently expecting his ninth child with his girlfriend of two years, Rosalind Ross (the baby will be her first), Gibson joked that he had “stretch marks” because he’d become a parent so many times.

“I’ve got stretch marks, man,” the 60 year old actor and director joked during a Tuesday morning appearance on ‘Good Morning America’. “I got stretch marks.” Co-host Michael Strahan said “that happens when you get past five”.

Oscar buzz is building for Mel Gibson's new movie Hacksaw Ridge, which recounts the true story of Desmond Doss (played by Andrew Garfield), a WWII combat medic who won a Congressional Medal of Honour despite his refusal to carry a weapon. This week the film landed 13 Australian Academy Award nominations, including best film, director and acting nods for Andrew Garfield, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving and Rachel Griffiths.

Gibson says he is not the same man he was 10 years ago, when personal scandals send him into rehab. "I am a member of a 12-step programme and I achieved sobriety like that," says the 60-year-old. "Imagine the worst moment you have ever had being recorded and broadcast to the world, and it wasn't meant to be public. You didn't stand on a soapbox and do it, but that's what happens. It is disheartening when you've been 10 years sober and you have to read every year or so that you're loaded, but you're not. It's a disingenuous reportage."

But it seems that his absence might have little to do with the scandalous outburst of 2006 and more to do with the fact that he doesn't actually like filmmaking that much.

Mel Gibson has landed a role in a movie about the creation of the Oxford English Dictionary.

The 60-year-old actor is set to star alongside Sean Penn in the upcoming film, which has acquired the rights to Simon Winchester's 1998 book 'The Professor and the Madman' in 1998, and will have the backing of Voltage Pictures.

The upcoming production, which will be produced by Gibson's Icon, will see Gibson play the character Professor James Murray, who was the mastermind behind the dictionary and compiled the renowned book in 1857.

Sylvester Stallone and his franchise for ageing action stars is back! Yes, the gang has nearly doubled for the latest Expendables adventure, stirring in big-named oldies along with fresh blood. The plot may not make any sense, and this one's been chopped down to a PG-13, but with a cast this beefy, you don't want to miss it.

Stallone returns as star and cowriter, along with previous cohorts Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Randy Couture and Terry Crews. The notable no-show this time is Bruce Willis, who is rumoured to have asked for $1 million per day to return, apparently prompting Stallone to tweet, "Greedy and lazy ...... a sure formula for career failure."

This is a week when most attention was on the sporting world, with the Wimbledon finals, the Formula One British Grand Prix and the Tour de France starting in Britain, and of course the World Cup in Brazil. So most people didn't notice that the Karlovy Vary Film Festival kicked off in the Czech Republic by awarding Mel Gibson with the Crystal Globe for outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema. This week A Fault in Our Star actress Shailene Woodley disguised herself in a long curly wig so she could enjoy her new movie at a regular cinema incognito. It may seem like a very simple disguise but it worked and Shailene was able to enjoy the film without causing a scene. Of course sometimes for a celebrity a disguise is necessary, especially when you're looking to carry out normal, everyday activities. Tanks at Cannes – if anyone could pull it off, it had to be Sly Stallone and company. Stallone and Expendables 3 costars made their arrival, riding along the Croisette in the French city in two massive Soviet tanks. Sure, it didn’t do anything to help the already terrible traffic in Cannes around festival time, but it did contribute to the film’s eye-popping promotional bill of $2 million, spent over the course of the festival.

Besides the tank stunt, admittedly one of the better ideas to come out of a Hollywood promo team, the $2 million budget also included a promo of clips from the movie and a star-studded press conference at the Carlton hotel. The press conference featured almost all the stars of the film (and the tank stunt) including returning heroes Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dolph Lundgren, as well as new recruits Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Kelsey Grammar. Nu Image and Millenium Films must be working on a very liberal budget this time around.

It’s been great to see Elin Nordegren has finally been moving on since her 2010 split with golf pro Tiger Woods. Nordegren has recently been dating coal magnate Chris Cline, although we know that it’s not for his money. As Aronofsky surely knew, any movie featuring a religious theme or borrowing from the bible is almost certain to find itself in some kind of hot water, whether it causes protests or even ends up getting an outright ban. Star Trek star Chris Pine is the latest celebrity to join the long list of famous folk who have been arrested on charges of DUI. Pine, who is best known for playing James T. Kirk in 2009’s Star Trek and 2012’s Star Trek Into Darkness, pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence and has been smacked with a six month driving ban and fine.

King of all DUI arrests, Mel Gibson, was arrested in 2006 for driving nearly twice the speed limit after a night of hard partying. In case he wasn’t in enough trouble, Mel then allegedly began to shout anti-semitic remarks. Most celebrities manage to bounce back quickly after their DUIs, but Mel’s reputation has never recovered.

Alec Baldwin's stalker, Genevieve Sabourin, was sentenced to six months in jail yesterday (14th November).

Alec Baldwin's stalker has been jailed for six months.

Sabourin claims to have had a sexual encounter with Baldwin in 2010, something Baldwin denies. Two years later, she proceeded to ring and email Baldwin. She was finally arrested in April 2012 when she turned up at Baldwin's Manhattan apartment. Baldwin's then-fiancé, now wife, Hilaria asked their doorman to contact the police.

Machete Cortez is back, and this time he's got the President of the United States for a boss as he embarks on his most outrageous and dangerous adventure yet. In the sequel to 2010's Machete, Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo are both back as director and star respectively, in a film that has plenty to offer if you're up for a B-movie spectacle. It not, you should probably heed the words of warning from most critics, and avoid Machete Kills at all costs. Just go see Gravity or Captain Phillips this weekend instead.

The trailer has finally been released for Robert Rodriguez's latest action movie: a sequel to 2010's cult-favourite Machete.

The director, who is also responsible for box office hits Sin City and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, hypes his latest follow-up by comparing it to previous successful action series: "We've given the character a much bigger playground. It's going to be like a James Bond movie, with a Bond-style villain", he said, talking to screenrant.com.

Reloaded for a second instalment that we'll have to wait for until its September release, the trailer tantalises the action-hungry filmgoer, with guns, grit, and girl-on-girl violence. Not to mention the promise of flaming vehicular explosions, over-the-top weaponry, and blistering clichéd one-liners only a blockbuster can deliver.

The trailer actually focuses more on some of the film’s other stars, who, admittedly, have dedicated their lives to a career in acting etc etc. Danny Trejo, Sofia Vergara, Michelle Rodriguez, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Alex Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror, and Mel Gibson all make an appearance in someway or another. For instance, Gibson plays a crazy arms dealer, and Sheen, totally ridiculously, plays the President of The United States. We get to see him shooting a big gun, and, let’s face it, we all want to see Obama with a massive gun, so there’ that. Sheen (Mr. President) recruits Trejo (Machete, who kills) to take down Gibson (arms dealer), because obviously, no one else can get he job done.

Are you paying attention, Mel Gibson? Fashion designer John Galliano’s got a real interesting idea when it comes to wriggling your way out of having a terrible reputation as an anti-Semite. Galliano, despite having disgraced himself back in 2011 for making anti-Semitic remarks in a Paris café, decided that it might be a good idea to go to his pal Oscar de la Renta’s Fashion Week show in New York, wearing an outfit strongly reminiscent of the outfits worn by Hasidic Jews.

Presumably aware that at some point during the day, he was likely to have his photo taken, the former Dior designer stepped out onto the streets of New York wearing a wide brimmed, homburg-style hat and with his hair curled into side-locks (“peyos”). Galliano has been helping Oscar De La Renta prepare for his 2013 fall collection show but last night, his own choice of outfit shocked the New York Jewish community.

A Williamsburg community leader, Isaac Abraham condemned what he deemed to be a sartorial insult, on Galliano’s part. “He’s trying to embarrass people in the Jewish community," Abraham told the New York Post "and make money on clothes [while] dressed like people he has insulted… If it was just anyone else, I wouldn’t know what to say. But considering who this guy is, considering his background and what he’s said in the past, let him explain it to all of us: Are you mocking us?”
