Matthew Sweet Girlfriend: Legacy Edition Album

Back in 1991, Matthew Sweet created the perfect pop rock album, a wonderful wrap of the best sounds that Big Star, The Byrds, Neil Young and Cheap Trick had to offer. Sweet's voice has power and sweet vulnerability, and he has an astonishing ability to build ache into a song.

Girlfriend is so full of great songs, great singing, and great playing (from band members like Richard Lloyd and Ric Menck) that even in 2006, it is hard to think of a better singer-songwriter album. Which, rather handily, this re-release builds on. With a spectacularly remastered original album, plus a whole extra disc of demos, outtakes and live versions, called Goodfriend, this Legacy Edition should be on every shelf.

A Special mention goes also to the extra 'bonus' tracks on the main disc, including a spectacular version of Neil Young's Cortez The Killer.
