47 Meters Down Trailer

Lisa and Kate are two sisters on vacation in Mexico and they're looking for a little adventure. They are encourage to go cage-diving (also known as swimming with sharks) by some daredevil guys they meet at a bar. Initially reluctant, once they are in the cage and underwater with a majestic great white shark, they realise how amazing their experience is. However, that feeling doesn't last very long when an enormous shark begins circling them and the cable attaching their cage to the boat snaps. They plummet 47 metres to the ocean floor and panic when they realise how little oxygen they have left. To make matters worse, the shark has followed them and is able to bite through the iron bars of their cage. Their freedom means that they are now able to swim to the surface, but with the toothy sea giant still hanging about accompanied by some hungry friends, perhaps they were safer trapped inside the cage.

Ashton Kutcher and Josh Gad have defended their latest film Jobs. The biopic has been heavily criticised in reviews. A number of critics have said the film is "excruciating and failing to entertain" (Slant) and "bland" (Variety). The latter comment is, by far, one of the most positive.

If... Dog... Rabbit... Review

OK
Promising film starts out great then turns into yet another predictable caper-gone-awry homage to The Killing. A rather unfortunate vanity production from first-time writer/director Modine. Special award for having the worst title in the history of movies (though it is "explained" in the credits).

Full Metal Jacket Review

Extraordinary
The best movie ever made about the American experience in Vietnam happens to have been filmed by an American expatriate living in Britain. Stanley Kubrick's war masterpiece is split into two parts, and it's the first that is laser-engraved into the psyche of any film fan. R. Lee Ermey has never (and will never) be able to shake the role of the uber-demanding sergeant, and Matthew Modine and Vincent D'Onofrio turn in career-making performances as well. Written tautly to the point where it's impossible to look away, this harrowing look at the war -- and what the experience was like for the troops before they ever set foot on foreign soil -- is unmatched in the genre.

Any Given Sunday Review

Good

There's only about 22 minutes of plot in "Any Given Sunday," Oliver Stone's innovative, bone-crunching ballet of sound and fury football, so lets get that out of the way right now:

Al Pacino stars as the embattled, old-school coach of a fictitious pro football team. Cameron Diaz, is the willful, profit-zealous daughter of the franchise's recently deceased owner. Jamie Foxx is a hotshot young quarterback whose know-it-all attitude and colossal ego threaten team unity. He's just replaced the injured, aging, Elway-esque veteran QB Dennis Quaid, whose compound back injury has spelled curtains for his career -- if only his ruthlessly ambitious, harpy of a wife (Lauren Holly) would accept that fact.

During the last two minutes of the fourth quarter of the Big Playoff Game that serves as the film's climax, each of these characters (especially the selfish ones) will have an epiphany about what's really important in their lives.
