Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg has apologized for his "ridiculous" remarks concerning the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The action-star had claimed that things may have turned out differently had he been travelling on one of the planes that were hijacked on September 11, 2001.
Wahlberg had intended to board one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Centre in New York, and speaking to Men's Journal magazine, the Oscar-nominated actor said, "If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn't have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we're going to land somewhere safely, don't worry". According to Bbc News, at least one widow of a 9/11 victim had labelled the comments "disrespectful", and the Hollywood star was forced to issue a formal apology, saying, "To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible.I deeply apologise to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive. It was certainly not my intention". Wahlberg began his career in entertainment as singer Marky Mark, before turning to acting in 1993 and establishing himself as a Hollywood action star. He plays a former smuggler forced to protect his brother in his latest flick, 'Contraband', which received mixed reviews upon its release last week.
In recent years, the 40-year-old has spent an increasing amount of time behind the camera, having produced TV shows like In Treatment and Boardwalk Empire and Entourage. He is attached to the big-screen adaptation of the latter.
