Mark Hamill may have accidentally revealed a significant Star Wars plot spoiler by making a revelation about his beard – (possible) spoiler alert below!

The 64 year old actor filmed a short video of himself shaving off his impressive facial hair ahead of his upcoming show ‘Pop Culture Quest’ for the Comic-Con HQ streaming network – but he captioned the clip: “Haven't seen my chin since May '15, so #FarewellFacialFur & #ByeByeBeard (at least til #EpisodeIX)” when he posted it on Twitter.

Mark HamillMark Hamill might have just revealed a significant 'Star Wars' plot development in a video where he shaved off his beard

Immediately, fans took this to mean that Hamill will have an ongoing part to play as Luke Skywalker in the franchise, a pretty strong indication that his character will not be getting killed off in Episode VIII and will have a part to play going into the final movie in 2019.

Of course, Hamill could be double-bluffing fans – he might appear as an Obi Wan Kenobi-style ghost in the final movie – but it looks as though he might have fallen foul of strident rules on spoiler enforced by studios.

The eighth Star Wars instalment is currently being filmed under the direction of Rian Johnson, taking over from The Force Awakens’ JJ Abrams, and is due to be released in cinemas in December 2017.

Back in April, Hamill revealed that his role in the eighth film would be “twice as big” as his part in The Force Awakens. That doesn’t really tell us much, because all Luke Skywalker did in the last film was stand on top of a mountain in Ireland looking moody for about ten seconds.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled to be released in cinemas on May 24th, 2019.
