It doesn't come as a surprise looking at reports over the last few months with their separation and all, but it seems that Nick Cannon has finally filed for divorce from his diva wife of six years Mariah Carey.

According to reports in TMZ, Cannon officially filed for divorce before Christmas on December 12th 2014 proving the worst that fans could imagine, they won't be getting back together. It was saddening enough to hear that the pair had split towards the end of the summer last year, but Cannon's later praising of Carey (even admitting he loved her and being terribly upset over apparent nasty messages being sent to her from his fans) suggested that there may still be hope for the couple.

Alas, no, the golden duo are no longer. And it seems proceedings began to get underway around about the time Carey missed her 2014 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting rehearsal, after apparently being on the phone to lawyers and such for reasons allegedly surrounding her crumbling marriage.

Last year it was reported that Cannon had already begun procedures to get a tattoo of Carey's face covered up. Though on the face of it, they appear to be trying to keep the divorce amicable, we're not sure how Carey will take Cannon apparently using the split as material for forthcoming BET show 'Real Husbands of Hollywood'. 'Divorce is hard', BET Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Debra Lee told New York Daily News at the time. 'But he keeps saying they have a great relationship, and I hope they will be okay.'

It is possible, however, that Carey is looking forward to an independent and very lucrative next few months as it was recently announced that she would take up a residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from May 2015. Maybe things aren't so bad for Carey after all!
