Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are no longer a couple, even in the eyes of the law. The pair’s divorce has been finalized, almost three years after the couple first announced their separation. The question is, what took so long?

According to E!News, the actual details of the divorce were finalized back in March, but the divorce wasn’t actually entered into the court’s system until this week because of a backlog of data. Back in 2011, when JLo and her ex went public with their breakup, they said in a joint statement: "This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters."

Anthony then filed for divorce on April 9, 2012, asking for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s then 4-year-old twins, Emme and Max. Lopez requested the same when she filed a response in December 2013. She also filed paperwork to have her legal name be changed from Jennifer Muniz (Anthony's real surname) back to Jennifer Lopez.

It was Lopez’ third marriage and the pair have both had several relationships since the split. Both are currently believed to be single. Anthony was the first to talk about the divorce after it was announced, saying in an August 2011 Nightline interview. "I'll tell you that it wasn't something sensationalistic happening," he said. "It was a realization on both our parts. So, you know, it wasn't shocking. These things happen. It was a decision that we made jointly."

So, congratulations on finally being legally single again.
