Madonna’s new album wasn't due out until spring 2015, but leaks have forced the singer to release six tracks early.
Last week Madonna fans got to hear a taster of the singer’s new album Rebel Heart early, after a series of unfinished demos leaked online. Now the Queen of Pop has hit back at the leakers and given fans a special treat this morning, with the release of six new songs on iTunes.
Madonna has surprised fans with six new tracks
While Rebel Heart wasn't supposed to hit shelves until spring 2015, leakers released early mixes of 13 tracks onto the internet this week angering the singer. However Madonna has now retaliated by putting official versions of six songs up for sale on iTunes and other digital music retailers, effective immediately.
More new music will follow on February 9th, and the full album will be released the first week of March via Interscope. Fans can buy the songs now as part of an album pre-order or purchase tracks individually.
"I was hoping to release my new single 'Living for Love' on Valentine's Day with the rest of the album coming in the spring," said Madonna in a statement. "I would prefer my fans to hear completed versions of some of the songs instead of the incomplete tracks that are circulating. Please consider these six songs as an early Christmas gift.”
The available tracks are 'Living for Love', a dance number with a hint of gospel, 'Devil Pray', ballad 'Ghosttown', the reggae inspired 'Unapologetic Bitch', the Kanye West produced 'Illuminati' and ‘Bitch I'm Madonna featuring Nicki Minaj.
Madonna hasn't made any secret of her anger and frustration over the recent leaks. When the track ‘Rebel Heart’ appeared online earlier this month Madonna posted a photo of a smashed iPod on Instagram with the caption ‘This broken ipod is a symbol of my broken heart! That my music has been stolen and leaked! I have been violated as a human and an artist! #fuckedupshit.’
The singer was then hit by leaks again after unreleased images from photoshoots made their way online. In repose the 58 year old posted one the offending images on Instagram with a note which read, "I am asking my true fans and supporters who respect me as an artist and a human to not get involved with the purchasing trading or posting of unreleased images or music."
"I hope and pray we find the source of the leaks soon. Until then i am grateful for any leads or info and even more grateful for your support and loyalty! Please let me finish my work so i can give you my very best!"
