While the iconic singer, and her two adopted children, visited President Peter Mutharika, her VIP status was restored in the African country.
On Friday (Nov 28th) Madonna met the new president of Malawi after her VIP status was restored in the African country where she famously adopted two children before having a public fall out with the former government.
Madonna visited the poor African nation for the first time in over a year
President Peter Mutharika greeted the iconic singer and praised her for her charity work in the poor country by stating, "My government has always been grateful for the passion Madonna has for this country."
This was the first time Madonna visited the African nation in more than a year after she had her VIP status revoked by former president Joyce Banda due to cancelling her plans to build an all-girls academy.
"Her VIP status has been restored," presidential press secretary Frederick Ndala confirmed to AFP.
"Thank you for welcoming me here. I was a big fan of your brother. He was very kind to us," Madonna said of Mutharika's older brother Bingu wa Mutharika.
Mutharika further gushed about Madonna, and said her vast charity work was directed "especially towards addressing poverty and hardships endured by Malawi's orphans and vulnerable children through her charity Raising Malawi."
"During our discussion, Madonna displayed much commitment in helping to build more classrooms in schools across Malawi," said Mutharika, who described himself as "a fan of her music".
He also thanked the Grammy Award-winner for bringing her two adopted children, Mercy James and David Banda, back to their native country for the entire week-long visit.
