Lucy Liu has announced that she’s become a mother, taking to social media to introduce her newborn son Rockwell Lloyd to the world on Thursday night (August 27th).

Rockwell is the 46 year old actress’s first child, and was born via gestational surrogate. She soon took to social media to post a touching picture of her cradling the tiny baby. “Introducing the new little man in my life, my son Rockwell Lloyd Liu. In (love emoji)”, Lucy wrote in the caption below on Twitter and Instagram.

Charlie’s Angels actress Liu has consistently remained silent on her love life, though she’s been romantically linked with actor Will McCormack and director Zach Helm in the past.

Back in 2010, she spoke about the possibility of motherhood to USA Today. “I don't have a settling-down time,” and didn’t abide by ideas of ‘biological clocks’. “Someone threw out the battery,” she quipped.

“I never feel like it's too early or too late for anything,” she explained. “I don't ever think for me that this traditional way is the way to go for me because I haven't had a traditional life.”

Liu has recently started a career behind the camera rather than in front of it, directing last night’s episode of the USA Network’s drama ‘Graceland’, having directed her first movie Meena in 2012.

On screen, she has starred in the Sherlock Holmes-based series ‘Elementary’ on CBS alongside Jonny Lee Miller since 2012, but has not physically appeared in any movies since 2011. She is due to provide voice work for Kung Fu Panda 3, which is due for release in January 2016.
