We were all so excited when it was reported a Xena: Warrior Princess reboot was in the works. Sadly, the star of the original series, Lucy Lawless, has since debunked the rumours so it doesn’t look like we’ll see everyone’s favourite 90s female superhero (Ok, except Buffy) back on our screens anytime soon.

The news was first reported yesterday (Monday 20th) and sources, claiming to be closely involved in the new production, alleged NBC were involved in a reboot of Xena. Lawless’ own husband, Rob Tapert, was even rumoured to be returning to executively produce the new show.

However, Lawless took to Twitter on Monday evening to debunk the rumours. ‘Sorry, friends! news of a ‪#Xena reboot is just a rumor. I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage.’ Lawless wrote on Twitter.

So it’s all over...

47-year-old Lawless has regularly expressed her interest in seeing a return of the show, in which she starred as the eponymous heroine. Even as recently as last week, whilst plugging her upcoming series Ash Vs. Evil Dead at the San Diego Comic-Con, Lawless expressed her desire to see the series return. She complained about how the series’ rights were not being released, despite attempts.

"I don't know what the hold-up is; it's about who has got the rights," Lawless said during a Comic-Con press conference, as THR reports.

"But that's a p**s-poor excuse anymore. Find who has got the rights, freakin' pay it. It's better to have 80 percent of something than 100 percent of nothing. Don't waste this opportunity; reinvigorate that franchise!"
