Spare a thought for Lindsay Lohan this New Year’s Eve. The Mean Girls star (who usually wouldn’t say no to a party) is having to ring in 2015 quietly, after falling ill with a rare, untreatable virus while on holiday.

The 28 year old actress has contracted Chikungunya, a virus which is transmitted through mosquito bites, while enjoying a festive holiday in French Polynesia. The virus is said to cause fever, joint paint, fatigue and a rash and has no cure, with the symptoms lasting for up to a month.

Before falling ill Lindsay had been sharing pictures of her holiday on social media, showing herself relaxing in the picturesque location. However on Sunday the actress shared a photo of herself on a jet ski with the caption, "Before I got chikungunya. use bug spray please. God bless.”

But Lindsay hasn't let her poor health spoil her fun, she later told her followers on social media, “In good faith with good people. I refuse to let a virus affect my peaceful vacation be safe and happy on the new year all.”

The actress has since returned home, arriving to a gift of new shoes from Givenchy. "Landed safe at home, @givenchyofficial told me so,” Lohan wrote on Instagram.

Lindsay has also had to deny a secret romance with The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue recently, after the The Sun reported the pair had been ‘hooking up’ but the romance later “just fizzled out.”

The pair had met when they were both guests on Britain's 'The Jonathan Ross' show in October and Lohan is said to have later invited him to see her Speed-The-Plow show. However a representative for the actress has denied any talk of a romance, telling The Daily Mail Online, “They are just friends, purely a platonic relationship. No dates, no romance.”
