Lindsay Lohan has narrowly avoided a jail sentence, after pleading no contest to charges of reckless driving and lying to the police. According to TMZ, a number of offers and counter-offers were traded between Lohan’s lawyer and those deciding the sentence and although she will have the usually mandatory 5 day sentence for reckless driving over-turned, she has been ordered to attend a locked rehab facility for 90 days.

As part of her punishment, which is designed to rehabilitate the offender, she is not allowed to fraternise with any drug users, she must steer clear of drugs and she has to agree to drug testing. Lindsay has also admitted to a probation violation in the jewelry heist case. She was sentenced to 180 days in jail for that. However, that sentence was ‘stayed,’ meaning that she stays out of jail, as long as she doesn’t break the law. That could be easier said than done for Lohan, who has been on probation since 2007 for an assortment of drink-driving and shoplifting offences.

Lohan was late to her court hearing today, when her private jet arrived late. The 26 year-old actress was ‘treated’ to a rather unusual greeting when she finally showed up nearly an hour late, and an un-named bystander ‘glitter-bombed’ her. She walked through the cloud of golden glitter, smiling, as she entered the court.
