‘Birthdays are just the beginning. #sense8 is reborn,’ Netflix tweeted.

The science fiction show follows eight strangers around the world who are connected by shared visions. As each individual is from a different culture around the world, the show explores such topics as religion, politics and gender identity. Andy and Lana Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski created, wrote and executively produced the show.

Sense8 stars Aml Ameen, Bae Doona, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Brian J. Smith. Many of the actors appeared on Netflix’s video on Twitter and, much like the series, appeared to be all over the world. South Korean actress Doona was filmed in Paris, with the Eiffel Tower in the back of the shot.

Sense8 was released on 5th June this year for immediate streaming and has already proved hugely successful. It was the first Netflix show to go to San Diego’s Comic-Con last month. According to reports, Netflix also considered the impact the show had on social media as fans are particularly vocal about their love of the show.

Fans had previously expressed their doubts about the return of the show as Netflix, according to the Verge, delayed before making the announcement. The show’s renewal is usually one month after its release but, in the case of Sense8, it was two months.

THR first reported the news.
