The Wolf of Wall Street will surely become a major player during awards season.
Wow, this one looks pretty damn good doesn't it? The Wolf of Wall Street trailer, starring Leonardo Dicaprio as stockbroker Jordan Belfort, exploded onto the internet on Sunday (June 16, 2013) with tons of verve and energy. Directed by Martin Scorsese and based on Belfort's memoirs, the movie boasts a pretty stellar cast headed by DiCaprio and held firmly together by a particularly strong and funny looking performance from the excellent Matthew Mcconaughey.

New York stockbroker Belfort refused to cooperate in a large FBI fraud case involving corruption into corporate banking and mob infiltration, living a hard-partying lifestyle at the same time. He made thousands of dollars a minute, spending it on sex, drugs and international travel before it all came crashing down.
Set to the new Kanye West song 'Black Skinhead' from the rapper's forthcoming album Yeezus, the trailer echoes Catch Me If You Can in places, though Wall Street appears slicker. DiCaprio's character trying to keep a straight face discussing health and safety before sanctioning a dwarf-throwing contest is a hilarious highlight. Though this is big-budget stuff (and many of the party scenes are Gatsby-esque) several of the sequences play out with the subtlety of movies like Steven Soderbergh's The Informant, especially the heart beating segment with DiCaprio and McConaughey. Much has been made of DiCaprio's Oscar snubbing in recent years - this one will be hard for the Academy to ignore.

Adapted by Boardwalk Empire's Terence Winter and featuring performances from Jonah Hill, Jon Favreau, Spike Jonze and Rob Reiner, The Wolf of Wall Street arrives in theaters on November 15, 2013. Still a 10/1 outside shot for Best Picture at the Oscars, the buzz isn't exactly shaking Hollywood but the return of Martin Scorsese will leave anxious fans with their ears to the ground.
