Leonardo Dicaprio Has Won A Lawsuit Against A French Magazine After Editors Printed False Story About The Actor And Pop Star Rihanna In May (15).
The Wolf of Wall Street star filed the lawsuit against Oops! magazine in June (15) after the publication ran a scandalous cover story alleging the movie star had impregnated the R&B beauty - and wanted nothing to do with her or the baby Gossip Cop reports.
The actor's lawyer called the story "pure fantasy", and sought damages of $28,800 (£18,000), which is the maximum allowed under French law.
And now a French court has sided with DiCaprio in the suit, ruling magazine editors violated the country's strict right to privacy laws by publishing information about the actor's personal life, according to GossipCop.com.
Frederic Truskolaski, an owner of Oops! and a defendant in the lawsuit, has opening up about the case to the website, saying, "We were totally expecting this decision, since in France when any magazine speaks about a celebrity's private life the magazine is automatically condemned."
GossipCop.com reports the publication's owners must hand over $8,814 (£5,655) to DiCaprio in damages and legal fees. In addition, editors must also acknowledge the Hollywood star won the lawsuit in an upcoming issue.
