The former Fugees star hit the stage at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem to celebrate the upcoming release of Netflix movie What Happened, Miss Simone? which tells the story of the singer's rise to fame, her personal problems and the ill health that blighted her life in the lead up to her death in 2003.
During the show, Hill sang Ne Me Quitte Pas, which was famously covered by Simone in 1965, as well as Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair, which was also a regular part of the music legend's repertoire, while Jazmine Sullivan also performed.
Hill closed the show by saying, "Thank you, Nina Simone for existing and being bold enough to speak."
The film hits Netflix on 26 June (15).
