Shamed sports star Lance Armstrong has rejected an offer to help rebuild his shattered reputation with a stint on American reality Tv show Dancing With The Stars.

The disgraced cyclist has fallen out of favour with the public since his doping scandal hit headlines and he publicly admitted using illicit drugs to help win races throughout his career. He was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and asked to return his bronze Olympic medal.

It has now emerged Armstrong was asked to join the upcoming 16th season of popular Tv talent contest Dancing With the Stars, but he turned the offer down.

A representative for Armstrong tells Ew.com, "Lance has been offered (a place on) the show... Although flattered he has passed on their generous offers."

The news comes after reports suggested troubled actress Lindsay Lohan declined a $550,000 (£344,000) pay cheque to take part.

The new series of the show will kick off in America on 18 March (13).
