More than a year after his dramatic hospitalisation following a drug overdose that left him in a coma, Lamar Odom has broken his silence about what happened that night in a new interview with ‘The Doctors’.

The former NBA star, 37, was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel in October 2015, around the time that his divorce from his former wife Khloe Kardashian was in full swing. In a promotional clip from a full interview that’s due to air in January, and which was filmed a few weeks ago, he was asked by Dr. Travis Stork about what he remembered that night.

“Being in that damn brothel and thinking I was going to just rest a little bit. I wasn't in a good place mentally — especially mentally before the incident happened. My wife at the time [we were] going through some things and I was in a dark place,” Odom recalled.

However, the former Lakers player says he believes he survived so that he could share his experience. “I guess they say everything happens for a reason. I guess the reason is I’m here,” he continued. “I can tell the story.”

Odom was in a coma for several days following the incident, during which Khloe temporarily suspended the divorce proceedings and helped her husband get better. As he recovered in a rental home in Calabasas, she initiated the process again earlier this year.

Earlier this week, just before the new promo clip was released, the two finally concluded divorce proceedings and Odom himself checked into rehab in order to “focus on himself”.

“I didn’t know until Khloé told me that I was in a coma,” Odom told Stork about this. “I couldn’t even speak at the time. I couldn’t talk. Nothing would come out of my mouth, so I was scared.”

Recently, it was revealed to Us Weekly that Odom will star in reality show documenting his recovery from the incident.
