Actress Kyra Sedgwick has made one last ditch effort to halt the implementation of a controversial U.S. oil pipeline after revealing officials are closing in on a decision to pass the project this week (begs13Feb12).
Dozens of celebrities including Robert Redford, John Cusack and Mark Ruffalo have spoken out against the construction of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, which would carry oil from Canada to Texas, and many saluted President Barack Obama when he shelved the proposal last month (Jan12).
However, on Monday (13Feb12) members of the U.S. Senate moved forward with plans to introduce a new measure, which would overturn Obama's ruling, and now activists are banding together to gather 500,000 signatures in 24 hours in a bid to send a harsh message to politicians supporting the pipeline.
Rallying support and directing fans to the petition, The Closer star took to her Twitter.com blog on Monday (13Feb12) and wrote, "Senate is moving to approve keystone XL pipeline. We have 24 hours to stop them! Take action; http://www.StopTar.org/ Please retweet!"
