2016 has seen vinyl albums sore, great new artists emerge and a great loss of musical talent in the industry.
The Last Shadow Puppets - Everything you've Come to Expect
An 8 year wait marks a return for duo the Last Shadow Puppets offering Everything you've Come to Expect and my number one in the top 10 of 2016. Aviation is charming and seductive being described as psychedelic pop hooking the listening from the get go. Miracle Aligner, Everything you've Come to Expect and Bad Habits all have lyrics and roll of the tongue song titles with its smart production of James Ford with a simple yet effective sound.

Most mentions of walls in the last 12 months have involved Donald Trump and Mexico, so when festival favourites Kings Of Leon released their latest album entitled with this charged word, it posed somewhat of a welcome distraction. Unfortunately, the relief was rather short-lived. While record execs and the Followills' bank manager must be revelling in the success of the commercially viable rock-pop tracks this family quartet have been releasing over the past couple of years, music lovers who followed these boys at the very beginning have instead been inwardly groaning at their progressive blandness - and sadly 'WALLS' doesn't do much to rectify this.
The album kicks off with its best track, 'Waste A Moment', which boasts punchy harmonies and a chorus that's ripe for a singalong, and there's a hint of Caleb's distinctive wavering vocals as he implores us to "never ask to be forgiven". Meanwhile, 'Around The World' is another song to get the listener nodding along, with its tropical-esque beat - even if it does sound as if the band have raided Two Door Cinema Club's melody book; while the chords and lyrics of 'Find Me' have a satisfying urgency that builds as the track progresses.
But the rest of the record is rather forgettable, and the songs seem to merge into one. The spark and passion that was still present even in later tracks such as 'Sex On Fire' a few years ago has burned out, and these new offerings feel fairly soulless and meaninglessly churned out. 'Reverend' possesses a similar languid tone and pace to many of the slower songs that comprised their 2008 album 'Only By The Night', while 'Over' is so lengthy and repetitive that after a minute you wish it would take after its own name and just finish. The production aspect of the record isn't that great, either - the instrumental parts are so dominating that the majority of the time you can't distinguish what is actually being sung (and not because Caleb is doing that hurried mumbling thing we all know and love).

The album, 'Walls', is set to be released later this year.
Kings Of Leon have just launched an uplifting new single entitled 'Waste A Moment'; the first track from their forthcoming seventh studio album 'Walls' which is out later this Fall. It's probably one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year and if the new song is anything to go by, it won't be a disappointment.
Kings Of Leon unveil 'Waste A Moment'
It's been three years since the release of their Grammy nominated sixth album 'Mechanical Bull', featuring the singles 'Supersoaker' and 'Wait For Me', but Kings Of Leon are finally back in the game with another exciting release this Fall.
Things seem to be running smoothly for Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Martin as Lawrence was once again there to support her new beau at his recent performance in Los Angeles.

Kings of Leon called upon the percussive talents of Questlove on 'The Tonight Show'.
Kings of Leon have been forced to axe nine concerts following a tour bus crash in Boston, Massachusetts, but they duly honoured their booking on the Jimmy Fallon show Tuesday night (August 12, 2014). Following the hospitalization of drummer Nathan Followill, who suffered broken ribs in the crash, the band drafted in an emergency replacement for the TV spot.

In recent years, the kings of contemporary rock have been riding their own 'Mechanical Bull', with successful highs ('Only By The Night') and terrible lows (29/07/2011 Dallas show). The band went from Grammy award winning rock legends to a vomiting embarrassment. As Kings Of Leon release their sixth studio album, 'Mechanical Bull', they hope to grab hold of the reins and make their way back to the top before they risk falling off forever.
After the Kings of Leon were tossed aside by critics in 2010, it was clear the family band had to have a change of direction. Delving back into their past, the band have a newfound angst and a quality which bears resemblance to marijuana influenced Youth & Young Manhood, whilst maintaining the stadium style, rock choruses they have become famous for.
The album opens with easily distinguishable first single 'Supersoaker' - a fitting name for those that made it the sound of their summer. The major keys compliment the upbeat tempo and the controversial vocals of Caleb Followill are stronger and more confident than ever, suiting the self-assured melody which soaks itself into your mind using a catchy chorus and unforgettable riffs. Following track 'Rock City' opens with a slow, progressive solo, setting the mood for this classic rock tune. The distorted guitar moves between minimalist power chords to groovy major key riffs whilst Caleb's vocals bear resemblance to Tom Petty, complimenting the re-mastered 80's style melodic sound, proving the band still understand how to write a classy rock song.

The Nashville rockers' new album has shot to the top.
Kings Of Leon are celebrating yet another chart-topping album with their new and sixth studio album, Mechanical Bull. Sufficiently tantalised by the teasing stream of singles we've heard in recent months, such as 'Supersoaker,' fans have rushed to purchase the new release and have given the Nashville band their fourth UK No.1 to date.
Kings Of Leon Are Top Dogs Again.
Drummer Nathan Followill tweeted his thanks for the fans support of their new album writing, "Thank you to all of our fans for showing us so much love on the new record. We made it for y'all and that's all that matters. #bestfansever."

Wonder, Alicia Keys, King of Leon and John Mayer all helped make the fundraising event a success.
Has there ever been a festival more rooted in positivity, unity and optimism for change than last weekend's Global Citizen Festival? The charitable event raised awareness about serious world issues and also saw soul legend Stevie Wonder headline the Saturday night. Organised by Australian philanthropist Hugh Evans, the event is designed to raise funds to support causes that lift people out of extreme poverty, work towards gender equality in education, and promote environmental sustainability.
Stevie Wonder Played A Central Role In The Festival's Success.
After being introduced himself by U2 rocker Bono, Stevie Wonder proceeded to welcome the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon: "My friends, there are rock stars, and there are rock stars," Wonder explained. "And I can assure you that the secretary general is a genuine rock star. He's a rock star in his quest to bring hope to the hopeless, consensus where there's conflict, and peace and rights to those who suffer from hatred and despair."
Kings Of Leon earn their fourth UK No.1 Album with 'Mechanical Bull'.
Their latest album was released on September 23rd and has sold over 71,000 copies so far.
This is the fourth No.1 for the Nashville boys in the UK and it is also the 10th anniversary of the group's debut album 'Youth & Young manhood' making its first chart appearance.

The Global Citizen Festival saw a heavily talented shrew of musical performers take the stage in support of The Global Poverty Project.
On Saturday (Sept 28th) Central Park in New York hosted a special charity concert that saw stars such as John Mayer, Alicia Keys and Kings Of Leon perform their hit singles to a capacity crowd of 60,000 people.
The Global Show also boosted speakers like the Crown Princess of Denmark, the President of Liberia, and a bunch of U.S. congressmen.
Saturday's display of music covered all genres for the New York City crowd as Kings of Leon opened the show with their new single 'Super Soaker' but they soon played an early days hit with 'The Bucket' and then rocked out with 'Don't Matter'.They got the crowd to sing along to 'Sex on Fire' and finished their set with the huge hit 'Use Somebody'.
iTunes Festival 2013 is definitely one of the best yet - and we're only midway through!
One of London's most fabulous concert venues, The Roundhouse, is holding the biggest artists of the year between September 1st - 30th and it's only going to get better from here.
The festivities kicked off with Lady GaGa, who certainly garnered much 'Applause' with her electric set which saw her don little more than seashells in strategic places as she bellowed out a taster of her upcoming album 'Artpop'.
A week in music videos... We caught up with Brooklyn band DIIV last week as they are currently enjoying the 2013 festival season. Talking to lead member Cole, he explained just how different it was playing festivals compared to club gigs, that it was more about coming into the world of the fans rather than bringing them into your own. He was also not shy about admitting that the pressure of working on a second album has lifted. 'People are gonna be way more patient and wanna hear what you come up with', he says. 'The first record you have to have a clear statement of purpose like a sound and catchy pop songs.' As well as taking the time to chat to us, we were treated with an uplifting live rendition of their song 'Human'. Watch the full interview here and watch the live video for Human.
With the release of their highly-anticipated sixth album 'Mechanical Bull' imminent, Kings Of Leon follow up the audio release of its first single 'Supersoaker' with a grainy, retro-style, artistically produced video. Just as we expected, 'Supersoaker' is made of the anthemic, driving and infectious stuff that previous international hits 'Use Somebody' and 'Sex On Fire' are made of and we certainly can't wait for what looks to be another well-loved record that will see us through the autumn. Watch the video for Supersoaker here.
A week in music videos... We finally get the first glimpse of what's in store for Kings Of Leon's sixth album 'Mechanical Bull' with their new single 'Supersoaker'. It's probably one of the most highly-anticipated albums of the year following their 2010 offering 'Come Around Sundown' which reached the top spot on the UK album charts and number 2 in the US. If you're a fan of awesome, driving rock anthems, then after listening to 'Supersoaker' you'll be the first to grab a copy of the new album in September. Listen to Supersoaker here.
Just as fresh and anthemic is London band Bastille, who stole the hearts of the nation with their debut album 'Bad Blood' earlier this year - an easy chart topper responsible for such tracks as 'Pompeii' and 'Laura Palmer'. They have now released a moving video for their emotional track 'Things We Lose In The Fire' which also managed to chart despite not being released as a single. Bastille are currently on a major world tour and will appear at the likes of Japan's Summer Sonic Festival, Leeds and Reading Festival and Berlin Festival this summer. Watch the video for Things We Lost In The Fire here.
Monster is your clue: who have iTunes booked to play at their month of concerts in September?
With a festival line up already that is sure to bring tears of unbridled joy to any self-respecting music fan, iTunes have gone and added another jaw-dropping act to their celebratory month of music this September. "Who could it be?!", you scream impatiently; well friends, be prepared to let out an involuntary cry of "hallelujah" because none other than Lady GaGa will be gracing Camden's Roundhouse stage come September.
Catch Lady Gaga In Her September iTunes Festival Performance.
Freaky pop queen Gaga will indeed be performing at iTunes Festival 2013 and The Sun have caught wind that a huge budget has been set aside to entertain the 3,300 fans packed into the London venue. September's show will be Gaga's first UK concert in seven months and will be likely to be the first live performance of tracks from her upcoming album Artpop. Sources say that her Haus Of Gaga team are spending £500,000 on the production to make iTunes' show as exciting as possible. The 27 year-old New Yorker has recently been resting in a wheelchair due to a labral tear in her right hip but one of her insiders spoke of Haus of Gaga's anticipation for the one-off September show: "The gig in Camden has a huge budget and is likely to be the first anyone sees or hears of her album. The Haus Of Gaga team have been working in secret on costumes and stage sets for the show from their base in Paris. Gaga's dancers have also been rehearsing but she's only told her closest friends about the new direction she's taking. The music is going to be a big departure and Gaga's dreamed up a whole new image for the album."

As far as eclectic genres go, iTunes Festival have pretty much covered all the bases with a host of exciting acts ranging from Jake Bugg to Jessie J, and Queens of the Stone Age to Einaudi.
Since yesterday's (19 June) mega announcement that superstar 'Sex on Fire' rockers Kings Of Leon, had been added to the bill, along with 'A-Punk' New Yorkers Vampire Weekend, there's a palpable excitement in the air as fans apply for tickets and sit tight.
Gone are the old ways of leaping to your laptop at 9 am as tickets go onsale and hitting the refresh button with shaking hands whilst thousands of others do the same in a bizarre battle of the F5 keys. iTunes have revolutionised the festival - instead of making fans shell out hundreds to be treated like medieval peasants, wading through excrement whilst clutching a £5 pint of warm beer - they're holding their month long celebration of sound at the recently refurbished and highly trendy Roundhouse venue in Camden.
There's enough pop acts to make any fan of the mainstream wet themselves, including Jessie J, Justin Timberlake, Jake Bugg and Rizzle Kicks, with an added healthy dosage of big-hitting names in the rock world, such as Paramore, Queens Of The Stone Age, Primal Scream and Kings of Leon.

The group were forced to pull out of their Friday performance because of rain, but were able to perform on Saturday in a rushed-together daytime performance that saw them perform the new song for the first time live.
Kings Of Leon were due to headline Friday (June 7) night's slot at this years Governors Ball at Randall's Island, NYC, before the heavens opened and mother nature drenched the city with a buckets of rain for most of the day, forcing the band to pull out of their schedule open-air performance on the night.
Not wanting to let their fans down who had already been let down by the rain's ill-timing, the group managed to pull some strings and get a day-time performance organised, where they unveiled the name of their new album and a brand new song to go with it. The band had oganised a grand unveiling of the new track and the album title, and wanted to air a Jimmy Fallon-starring video during their performance to usher in the news, but alas the band had to wait until Saturday to reveal the news and the Jimmy Fallon video was aired on YouTube Friday night instead.
Kings of Leon played a brand new song from their forthcoming sixth album Mechanical Bull during a rescheduled Governors Ball Music Festival set in New York.
'Sex On Fire' rockers Kings Of Leon performed at Saturday's (8th June) rescheduled Governors Ball - a festival on New York's Randall Island - in rather wet and windy conditions.
Their Friday festival appearance had been cancelled due to severe weather conditions but fans were relieved to learn of the rescheduled Saturday set, ahead of GUNS N' ROSES' headlining, in what was their first live concert in NYC for three years.
As fans slipped about whilst trying to dance in the mud, frontman Caleb Followill introduced the new song: "We're gonna play a new song we've never played before, so if we mess it up it's your fault."
The Hangout Festival is turning into a real success story for the organizers.
The Hangout Musical Festival returns to Gulf Shores, Alabama, this weekend with a pretty varied line-up including Stevie Wonder, Kings Of Leon and Tom Petty as well as a number of notable hip-hop acts. Though the headliners will no doubt draw sizeable crowds, the lies of Kendrick Lamar and the outstanding Public Enemy are the most interesting performances on offer.
Lamar, hip-hop's current golden child, hits the stage on Saturday (May 18, 2013) playing tracks from his critically acclaimed major label debut good kid, m.A.A.d city. Watch out for singles Swimming Pools and Poetic Justice (with Drake) and the superb Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe.
Legendary group Public Enemy, who were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, will take to the stage rather early on Saturday (1.30pm). The hip-hop outfit are still a live force to be reckoned with and you shouldn't miss these.
The Austin City Limits line-up looks pretty impressive this year.

One Direction almost caused a riot at the iTunes Festival at London’s Roundhouse on Thursday evening (September 20, 2012) just by, err, being there. The Press Association reports how fans “squealed and cried” as the boy-band took time out from their set to answer ‘Twitter questions’. Some of their answers were inaudible due to the high pitched din that enveloped the historic venue.
The question-and-answer session was an intriguing affair; for example, we found out that Zayn things Harry is sexy, and that Liam thinks Niall is cute. Oh wait, and Louis thinks Zayn is kind! Anyway, after that, the audience were treated to a blistering set from the group, who performed some of their biggest hits – You Don’t Know You’re Beautful, One Thing and Moments – as well as some of the tracks they performed while on The X Factor. Their cover of Kings Of Leon’s ‘Use Somebody’ went down a storm, as did The Zutons’ ‘Valerie’ and The Black Eyed Peas’ ‘I Gotta Feeling’. It’s safe to say One Direction have been one of Simon Cowell’s biggest success stories, topping the charts on both sides of the Atlantic and selling out huge venues with ease. Addressing the band’s storming success across the pond, Louis (who said Zayn was nice, remember!), told fans, “We have spent time outside of the UK and it is incredible to be back in London.”
Talihina Sky follows brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill and their cousin, Matthew Followill, from their very beginnings, in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and Oklahoma City. For Caleb, Nathan and Jared, their childhood was spent travelling throughout the Deep South with their father, who was a Pentecostal Church preacher. The three brothers formed Kings Of Leon in 1999, with Matthew joining later. The group finally landed a record deal in 2002.
When Kings of Leon were booked to headline the Friday night at Glastonbury 2008, those that had followed their career through three exquisite albums smiled and nodded that one of the greatest bands of the last decade was finally getting the mainstream recognition they deserved. The Followill's debuted two new tracks that night, opening with a pulsating 'Crawl' and placing slow-burning 'Manhattan' in towards the end. It was a taster for record number four 'Only By The Night', due out some three months later.
