It Happened Two Weeks Ago: Kerry Washington Keeps Birth Of Baby Daughter Remarkably Private

Announcement time: Kerry Washington has given birth to a baby girl. The little one came into the world on April 21 (kudos to Washington for managing to keep it private until now). Her name is Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha, according to TMZ and Us Weekly. Washington usually keeps her personal life private and this has remained true during her pregnancy. The few bits of news released have included the original pregnancy announcement back in October of 2013, when Washington, 36 and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha announced that they were expecting. Three months later Washington’s pregnancy made news again, when the actress stepped out with her brand new baby bump at the 2014 Golden Globe awards on Jan. 12.

"I feel like I have the best date of the night," Washington, clad in a white Balenciaga gown, said for Us Weekly on the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. "My little accessory tonight." Asomugha later joined his pregnant wife at an after party, which marked a rare public appearance for the pair.

Then on February 23, Washington attended a baby shower held by her friend and Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes at the screenwriter’s  Hancock Park home in L.A. About 60 friends and relatives attended, including costar Darby Stanchfield, Regina King, and Jane Fonda.

Washington's pregnancy didn't make it onto the show.

"Everyone was so happy to see Kerry and immediately began admiring her belly," an eyewitness told Us. "It was a very lively crowd. Throughout the afternoon, people were hollering and clapping or ooh-ing and ahh-ing. They seemed to have a great day all around."

Apart from her few and far between public appearances, Washington has mostly kept her pregnancy on the DL. It wasn’t written into Scandal, with the creators instead opting to cut the 3^rd season, which just recently wrapped filming, down to 18 episodes.
