Kendrick Lamar is at Number 1 in both the US and the UK with his third album 'To Pimp A Butterfly', which came out a week earlier than scheduled last Monday.
Hip hop sensation Kendrick Lamar has stormed to Number 1 in the US Billboard 200 Albums chart with his third album To Pimp A Butterfly. It clocked up over 363,000 equivalent sales (totalling physical, track and streaming data) despite being released one week earlier than planned, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
To Pimp A Butterfly has the second highest first-week sales of 2015, behind fellow rapper Drake’s recent surprise release If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, which sold 495,000 in its debut week back in February.

Kendrick Lamar’s first major label album good kid, m.A.A.d city, was released back in 2012 and earned him a heap of critical respect as well as sales of nearly 2 million to date, though it failed to hit the top spot. The latest album has been equally well-received, and looks set to eclipse the sales figures of its predecessor in time.
Cult indie heroes Modest Mouse enter the charts at Number 3 with Strangers To Ourselves, their first album in exactly eight years, selling 77,000 units. Their last album We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank was a chart-topper way back in March 2007.
Sandwiched between the two new entries is last week’s biggest seller, the ‘Empire’ television soundtrack, with 110,000 sales. At Number 4 is another soundtrack, for the erotic movie Fifty Shades of Grey, with 60,000.
Taylor Swift’s ever-steady 1989 is a non-mover at Number 5 (56,000), with Drake’s aforementioned album rising one place to Number 6 (52,000). British singer Ed Sheeran does the same at Number 7 with his second album X (49,000).
British singer Marina Diamandis, under her stage name Marina & The Diamonds, makes her US Top Ten debut with her third album Froot, which enters at Number 8 with first week sales of 46,000. She’s steadily been gathering fans since her first album The Family Jewels in 2010.
