Kelly Clarkson has revealed that she spent her big Grammy Award-winning night back in 2006 in fear that she had cancer – after being given the wrong test results by her doctor.

The 34 year old pop star won two Grammys that night in February 11 years ago, for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for ‘Since U Been Gone’ and the Best Pop Vocal Album for Breakaway. Her acceptance speeches were memorable for the tears in her eyes throughout.

However, she said in a new interview with Billboard’s Pop Shop podcast this week that this was because she was told just hours before the ceremony that she had received positive results for cancer tests which later turned out to be false – and which completely ruined her ability to enjoy her success that evening.

”Well, not many people know this —not to be a Debbie Downer— but I was told that morning that I had cancerous results for something," she said. "Here's the horrible part: I went the whole day crying. They redid my makeup like four times because I was like, 'Wow, so young.' I was just completely freaking out.”

”Then when I won, I thought, 'Oh my God. This is like God giving me one more thing before something horrible happens’,” she continued.

However, the test results proved to be mistaken, as the doctor’s clinic had mixed up results.

“I went to the doctor's the next day and they apologised for mixing up results. And I was like, 'Are you for real?!’ I was like, 'You completely ruined my entire [experience].' The first time for an a kid watching the Grammys, that was a big dream! It was kind of the worst/greatest day. And the next day was also the worst/greatest day because I wanted to punch someone. I was like, 'Who mixes up results? Why wouldn't you test again?’”

Clarkson married her manager Brandon Blackstock and has two children with him – daughter River, 2, and son Remington, seven months.
