Following the Kate Middleton prank phone call that led to the suspected suicide of London nurse Jacintha Saldanha, Australian radio station 2DayFM and DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian have been in turmoil, with the pair saying that they’re “shattered” that what was meant to be a joke ended up leading to such a devastating consequence.

King Edward VII Hospital nurse, 46 year-old Saldanha, was hoodwinked by the pair pretending to be Queen Elizabeth II and the Prince Of Wales on air, and put them through to another nurse so that they could gain vital details. Saldanha’s body was subsequently found last Friday (December 7) nearby the hospital. "There's not a minute that goes by where we don't think about her family and what they must be going through," a tearful Greig told Australian TV, according to E! Online. "And the thought we may have played a part in that is gut-wrenching."

The two DJs have been suspended by the radio station until further notice, whilst in a further move the station has also announced the cancellation of its Christmas party for this year. The Daily Mirror reports that the station felt it would be “inappropriate” to hold such an event in light of the recent tragedy. Confirmation that the death was suicide could come today (December 11) with a post-mortem being carried out on the body.
