Kate Hudson has been shopping with Elle Macpherson to help her get over her split from Alex Rodriguez.

The 'Nine' actress and the New York Yankees baseball star ended their seven-month relationship earlier this month and she has been surrounding herself with her female friends during her festive break in Aspen, Colorado.

A source said: "Kate is a serial dater, but it seems like she wants to take some time off and just be with her girlfriends."

Over the weekend, Kate and Elle were spotted doing some retail therapy at Ralph Lauren before grabbing ice cream cones at nearby store Paradise Bakery.

It was recently reported, Kate's New Year's Eve (31.12.09) plans ad been ruined following her separation from Alex as they had planned to see in 2010 by attending a host of parties in Miami, Florida.

However, mother-of-one Kate cancelled, while Alex, nicknamed 'A-Rod', will probably still attend.

A source said: "They were both scheduled to appear together at several bashes. Obviously that's not happening now - she cancelled! She cancelled everything, she's not going to Miami at all. Alex is probably still going though."
