The stars of The Big Bang Theory have paid tribute to the late actor Carol Ann Susi.

Carol Ann Susi played Howard's mother Mrs. Wolowitz on The Big Bang Theory. Her character was unseen by fans as the dialogue involving her character was entirely over the phone but fans of the show became familiar with the sound of her highly comic voice. 

The tragic news of Susi's death broke yesterday (11th November). Susi was 62 at the time of her death which was reportedly the result of a short battle with an aggressive form of cancer. There has been an outpouring of grief from fans of the show who became accustomed to hearing her voice over eight seasons and also from members of the Big Bang cast.

Kaley Cuoco Sweeting, who plays Penny on the show, expressed her sadness of Facebook and posted a picture of Susi, describing her late co-star as 'hilarious', 'adorable' and 'sweet'. She further promised Susi 'will forever be part of the Big Bang family.' 

Melissa Rauch, who plays Bernadette, paid tribute to Susi via Twitter. Rauch wrote 'So grateful to have known Carol Ann Susi who brought laughter & light with her always. She'll forever be in my heart.' Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy, also used social media to express her grief. She confirmed the news of Susi's death on Twitter, describing her as 'a dear friend and cast mate'. 

In addition to the tributes paid by the cast of The Big Bang Theory, the show's executive producers, Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Bill Prady, released a statement which read: 

'Unseen by viewers, the Mrs. Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show's eight seasons. What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann's immense talent and comedic timing, which were on display during each unforgettable appearance. In addition to her talent, Carol Ann was a constant source of joy and kindness to all. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family during this time, and we will miss her greatly.'
