Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock will be made into a live-action feature film starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The movie will be based on the beloved children's television series of the same name, created by Henson in the 1980s. The series centred on a group of Muppets known as the Fraggles who lived in a series of caves in Fraggle Rock. Alongside the Fraggles live other species of Muppets: Doozers and Gorgs.

34-year-old Gordon-Levitt has previously appeared alongside the Muppets before, having featured in a Thanksgiving special alongside the likes of Miss Piggy and Kermit. However, Gordon-Levitt has a personal connection with Fraggle Rock as it was one of his favourite television series as a child.

"The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on Sesame Street, and then on Fraggle Rock. Jim Henson's characters make you laugh and sing, but they're also layered, surprising, and wise", Gordon-Levitt said. "From Oscar the Grouch, to Yoda, to the Fraggles. I've never stopped loving his work, even as a young frisky man, and on into adulthood. Collaborating with Lisa Henson makes me confident we can do something that Jim would have loved. I'm grateful and excited to be working with New Regency on this project."

Fraggle Rock will be produced by New Regency, The Henson Co. and Lisa Henson.

No further details for Fraggle Rock have been released but Gordon-Levitt has a busy year ahead as three films in which he stars are set to be released. Gordon-Levitt will play tightrope walker Philippe Petit in The Walk, an untitled comedy project in which he will star opposite Seth Rogen and as Edward Snowden in the Oliver Stone directed film, Snowden
