'The Walk' Trailer Shows Joseph Gordon-Levitt And The World Trade Centre

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Robert Zemeckis Ben Kingsley

On the morning of 7th August, 1974, French high-wire artist, Philippe Petit, made an incredible journey, as he flew into the record books with the record of the highest high-wire walk at the time. For 45 minutes, he walked back and forth along an eight-meter-long wire, 1350 feet from the ground, between the - then new -World Trade Centre Towers.

In 2008, the UK made a documentary about Petit's walk, entitled 'Man on a Wire'. Now, 40-years on from the insane and unauthorised stunt, director Robert Zemeckis ('Who Framed Rodger Rabbit', 'Back to the Future', 'Forrest Gump', 'Cast Away', you get the idea.) is working on a new biographical film, 'The Walk', looking into the life and aspirations of Petit and the walk that made him famous.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For Review

Very Good

It's taken nearly 10 years for filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and graphic novelist Frank Miller to get around to making this sequel, but it was worth the wait because the technical advancements make this second triptych of stories even more visually stunning, and the emotional resonance is even stronger. This is a lean, mean noir thriller that doesn't waste a single moment as it rips through three interlocking plots that centre on revenge for the events of the first movie.

Two people are out to get even with the ruthlessly nasty politician Roark (Powers Booth). Watched over by the hulking Marv (Mickey Rourke), gun-toting stripper Nancy (Jessica Alba) is still heartbroken after Roark killed her beloved Hartigan (Bruce Willis), who appears to her as a ghostly apparition. And Johnny (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is determined to bring Roark down by humiliating him at his own high-stakes poker game, even though merely having uncanny good luck might not be enough. But the main story centres on private eye Dwight (Josh Brolin), who is stopped in his tracks when he encounters his old flame Ava (Eva Green), a bombshell who has power over most men she meets. She asks for help with a domestic problem, and Dwight is powerless to walk away even though he knows something is fishy.

As before, these stories unfold exactly as they would in a graphic novel, with blunt dialogue and strikingly visual imagery black and white that's spotted with flashes of colour. Aside from Ava's blue coat, that colour is usually red: hair, nails, lips, but not blood, which splashes in glaring white. It looks fantastic in (ahem) eye-popping 3D. And it's fiercely violent as death hovers around the residents of Basin City, especially the lawless Old Town district. But there's just as much emphasis on surging passion, including some surprisingly graphic sexuality that plays up how helpless men are around a scantily clad woman. Indeed, it's rare to see an action film in which the women are so resolutely in charge.

Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For - International Trailer

It's all about revenge in Sin City now as the wounded (both physically and mentally) set out on a trail of death and destruction in a bid to make sure justice is served in their town. Dwight McCarthy is on another rescue mission to save an abused wife as Ava Lord claims she is a prisoner at the hands of her wealthy husband Damien. Unfortunately, it seems her intentions are of the dishonest kind. Thought to be have been executed, Marv wakes up among several corpses with little memory of his alleged crimes, but a strong desire for vengeance. Nancy is heartbroken to the point of insanity following  police officer John Hartigan's suicide, and there's no stopping her when she decides to sentence the father of child-killer Roark Junior, Senator Roark, to death. Notorious gambler Johnny is a newbie in the town with his own scores to settle, but it isn't long before he realises he's messing with criminals much bigger than him.

The second instalment of the 'Sin City' film franchise 'Sin City: A Dame To Kill For' is due for release nearly ten years following the 2005 original. Author of the original graphic novel Frank Miller ('300', 'Batman: The Dark Knight Returns', 'Daredevil: Born Again') has adapted the screenplay and co-directs the movie with Robert Rodriguez ('Machete', 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico', 'From Dusk Till Dawn'). 'Sin City 2' is set to hit UK screens on August 25th 2014.

The Wind Rises Review

Essential

For what he has said will be his final film, animation maestro Hayao Miyazaki tackles a controversial biopic that could just as easily have been shot in live action. It's as if he's challenging filmmakers to use their imaginations and make the best movies they can make in whatever way they can. And the result is utterly magical, transcending the touchy subject matter to tell a story about the purity of creativity.

Based on the life of aviation engineer Jiro Horikoshi, this Oscar-nominated film opens in the 1920s when young Jiro (voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the English version) decides to study aeronautics because his poor eyesight won't let him become a pilot. So he dreams of designing the perfect plane, and his inventive approach catches the attention of Mitsubishi, which assigns him to a secret military project working with Japan's allies in Nazi Germany. Meanwhile, Jiro meets Nahoko (Emily Blunt) and they fall for each other as she struggles to recover from tuberculosis and he grapples with the moral issues of designing a beautiful plane that will be used to kill people in wartime.

Clearly this isn't the kind of animated movie Hollywood would ever produce: it's packed with complex characters who don't always do the right thing, and it takes a perspective that requires sympathy with someone who could be considered a historical villain. But Miyazaki tells the story exquisitely, animating the scenes with such inventiveness that it's impossible not to get lost in the breathtaking imagery. Scenes are also packed with lively side characters, including Jiro's bulldog-like boss (Martin Short), a more grounded colleague (John Krazinski) and a suspicious foreigner (Werner Herzog) who seems to be following Jiro.

The Wind Rises Trailer

Jiro Horikoshi is an aeronautical engineer whose childhood was filled with dreams about becoming a pilot. His poor vision meant that he would never realise his ambition, but he is encouraged to keep up his passion by Italian plane designer Caproni. Resolving to design aircrafts instead of fly them, Jiro studies the art at university, during which time he meets an attractive young woman named Naoko. Their relationship was born out of the dangerous circumstances of the Great Kanto Earthquake, throughout which they helped one another off a fast moving train. As their life together progresses, Naoko falls ill and Jiro struggles to bring in a regular income. He must succeed in the challenge of building the most exquisitely beautiful aeroplane in the world in order to get back on his feet, as his career could be the only thing he has left.

'The Wind Rises' is romantic, heart-wrenching animated adventure directed and written by the Oscar winning Hayao Miyazaki ('Spirited Away', 'Princess Mononoke', 'Howl's Moving Castle'). This Japanese drama, loosely based on Tatsuo Hori's 1936 short story 'The Wind Has Risen', features the voices of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in the English version. It is due for release in the UK on May 9th 2014.

Bradley Cooper Is Out! Could One Of These Actors Replace Harrison Ford As Indiana Jones?

Harrison Ford Joseph Gordon-Levitt Josh Brolin Clive Owen Matt Damon

Chill out internet, Bradley Cooper will not be playing Indiana Jones in a reboot of the movies, we repeat, he will not be playing Indiana Jones! Rumours that the Silver Linings Playbook actor would replace Harrison Ford for a fifth Indiana Jones film have been staunchly denied by all involved. Although we have to admit, we reckon Bradley would make a pretty great Indy. At least think about it, Disney?

It’s nowhere near certain that a new Indiana Jones film is in the works, but if there is, and they are looking to replace veteran star Ford, then we suggest one of these actors instead.

The Wind Rises may not have been the flashiest or most talked-about movie at last night's Academy Awards but could prove to be one of the most arresting animated movies of all time upon its widespread UK release in May. The new Studio Ghibli picture was completely overshadowed by Disney's Frozen at the Oscars, with the winter musical's months of box office success and performance from Idina Menzel at the ceremony proving too difficult to ignore.

'Ant-Man' Will Star Paul Rudd In 2015. Should We Be Excited?

Paul Rudd Joseph Gordon-Levitt Robert Downey Jr

Marvel is steadily gearing up for its highly anticipated “phase 3” and it looks like the studio may cast Paul Rudd as Ant Man, a lesser known superhero soon to be brought to the Marvel film universe. Ant-Man is definitely one of the less coveted roles within the Marvel-verse and the decision to bring the character into the films was originally questioned by fans, because of Ant-Man’s mostly comedic role in the comics. Rudd himself is currently promoting his most recent movie, Anchorman 2, where he stars opposite Will Ferrell, Steve Carell and Christina Applegate.

Paul Rudd, Anchorman 2 Premiere
Rudd's casting is yet to be confirmed by Marvel officials.

Then again, there were similar concerns before the introduction of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. Originally, the actor was selected for his similar personality to the character of Tony Stark and with Paul Rudd being known mostly for his comedic work, it seems the studio might be using the same casting method.

Don Jon Review

Excellent

With this writing-directing debut, Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivers a remarkably assured comedy-drama while also giving himself a role that's far against his usual type. It's raucously hilarious but also surprisingly involving as it reveals the vulnerabilities of a strutting hard-man. And we're having so much fun that we barely notice that the script's approach to addiction is somewhat simplistic.

The title character is such a dude that his friends call him "the don", in reference to New Jersey gangsters. And Jon (Gordon-Levitt) has his life figured out, with a list of things he cares for: his body, home, car, family, church, friends and girls. In that order. But above everything else, his main obsession is porn. Then while hanging with his friends Bobby and Danny (Brown and Luke) he spots Barbara (Johansson), a perfect "dime" who's worth playing the long game for. Except that she has zero tolerance for pornography, so he has to hide his addiction from her, only confessing to his parish priest and an unexpectedly sympathetic fellow student (Moore) at night school.

Like a character from Jersey Shore, Jon is such a charming loser that we can't help but love him. But despite the macho swagger and gym-honed physique, he's also deeply devoted to his parents (the fabulous Danza and Headly) and happiest when he's cleaning his flat. Gordon-Levitt wouldn't be the first actor you'd think of in this role, but he plays it perfectly, letting us see the little boy behind the tough-guy posturing and making us believe that he's fallen for the charms of this idealised woman (Johansson is simply hysterical).

Don Jon's Out Tomorrow! Should You Go And See It?

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Scarlett Johansson

Tomorrow is Friday, which - considering everything we’ve been taught - makes today Thursday, November 14. And what better way to spend a Friday night than seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s smug grin on a massive screen? We’re not even being sarcastic.

Joseph Gordon Levitt and Tony DanzaMeatheads: Joseph Gordon Levitt and Tony Danza

And neither were the critics when they lauded praise upon this, Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, in which he also stars as the lead alongside Scarlett Johansson. Don Jon is a handsome, cocky young chap with an irresistible charm. His vice: pornography, which comes back to haunt him when he meets a girl strong enough to challenge him.

Scarlett Johansson Has No Problem With Porno - Actress Open Minded When It Comes To Adult Entertainment

Scarlett Johansson Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Scarlett Johansson stars as the romance-loving, porn-weary female lead in actor, writer and director Joseph Gordon-Levitt's first feature presentation Don Jon. Whilst her character in the film is well and truly opposed to the adult entertainment industry, Scarlett herself is actually a little more open minded in her opinions on pornography.

Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett's views on porn differ greatly to her character's

The stunning actress appears as the cover star of the next edition of Marie Claie UK and in her feature interview pornography - a prevalent and key theme from Don Jon - was inevitably one area where the magazine wanted her opinion on. Her opinion might have surprised a few people though, because not only does she think that porn is a viable business venture, but she also believes that it can be "enjoyed" and be "productive" for both men and women.

It's Between Joseph Gordon-Levitt And Paul Rudd For 'Ant-Man' Duties In Avengers Sequel

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Paul Rudd

Who wants to be the Ant-Man more? That’s what it might come down to. Trouble is, being the Ant Man is pretty cool, so we’re guessing the two hopefuls, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd might actually have to lift 100-times their own weight – like ants can – to prove they’re good enough.

Joseph Gordon-LevittJoseph Gordon Levitt would be our favorite to play Ant-Man

That won’t actually happen, but film casting is probably quite a long and boring process; perhaps subjecting the hopefuls to the strenuous or weird tasks their prospective characters have to do is the way forward. Although, that might lead to some bad murders. Maybe that’s a whole film in itself. Who should we cast for it?
