Jonathan Pryce ''brought sense of humour'' to 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' villain Zartan.

The British actor plays the dual role of the United States president and the dastardly shape shifter who disguises himself as the commander in chief, and he injected plenty of personality into the parts, according to director Jon M. Chu.

Chu told BANG Showbiz: ''Jonathon brought a sense of humour to Zartan. He just swims in the part of Zartan and the president of the United States.''

Chu explained that it was a technically laborious process creating scenes between Pryce's two characters, but the actor made them come alive.

He said: ''When using technology it's very technical and stale, but he gives flair to the character that you can't write in the script.''

Pryce added: ''For me acting wasn't difficult. Technically, it was difficult for Jon but fortunately given today's technology we could look at what was happening digitally and see where I fitted, and was I looking in my eyes? And did I believe me when I spoke?''

'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' is out now.
