Actor Johnny Depp has made his first public statement since news of his divorce from wife of 15 months Amber Heard was made public on Thursday. Heard’s filling for divorce came just three days after Depp’s mother Betty Sue Palmer passed away. The actress is said to have cited irreconcilable differences for the split and is now seeking spousal support.

The statement, released by Depp’s spokesperson read: ”Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully, the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.“

TMZ reports that Depp has asked a judge to reject Heard’s claim for spousal support. The couple, who wed in February 2015, did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement. Depp is said to have hired celebrity divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser, who previously represented Kim Kardashian, while Heard has enlisted the services of Samantha Spector.

According to Page Six, Depp and Heard’s marriage had been on the rocks for some time, maybe even as soon as three months after their wedding. An ‘insider’ told the column: “Their relationship turned sour almost immediately.”

"She’s really young and affected by the industry and ‘the scene’ at times," the source added. "Don’t get me wrong; she’s a cool chick, but Johnny doesn’t tolerate that.” The couple’s infamous apology video last month also reportedly didn't help matters, with another source adding: “[It] made him look so stupid and it was her fault.”
