Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have split up.

The couple - whose 14-year relationship has been rumoured to be in trouble for several months - have confirmed they have ''amicably'' parted ways and appealed for privacy for the sake of their two children, Lily-Rose, 13, and 10-year-old Jack.

A statement from their representatives read: ''Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have amicably separated. Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children.''

News of the split comes just a month after it was claimed the couple - who have not appeared in public together for over a year - were ''working on'' getting their relationship back on track.

A source said recently: ''For the first time in a long time, he is talking about her. They both want to make it work.''

And the 'Dark Shadows' star recently blasted untrue speculation about his relationship being over.

He said: ''The rumours are not true. They are absolutely not true.'

''No matter what I say about this, people believe the opposite. I can't say enough about it not being over.''
