The Big Lebowski star will take on the title role in the musical, which debuted on Broadway in 1968, and detailed the friendship between a larger-than-life Greek named Zorba and Nikos, a young American student who inherits an abandoned mine on the island of Crete, played by Santino Fontana.

The show, based on author Nikos Kazantzakis' 1952 novel Zorba the Greek, features a book by Joseph Stein, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

The stage show, which will also feature Adam Chanler-Berat, Marin Mazzie and British actress Zoe Wanamaker, will run for seven performances from 6 to 10 May (15) at City Center.

The original production, which was directed by Harold Prince and starred Herschel Bernardi in the lead role, won a Tony Award for Best Scenic Design. It was also nominated for seven other prizes, including Best Musical.

Turturro last appeared on stage in an Off Broadway production of The Cherry Orchard in 2011.
