Jodie Foster has received a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, after nearly five decades in the movies in front of, and behind, the camera.

The 53 year old actress was present at the unveiling ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard, and she gave a short acceptance speech after her name was confirmed among the copious hundreds of others who have graced the movie and entertainment industry over the years. She made her name in the controversial Taxi Driver in 1976, and is probably most famous for her Oscar-winning role as Clarice Starling in The Silence of The Lambs.

“I grew up blocks from Hollywood Boulevard and would cross it every single day of my life,” she said as she acknowledged the honour. “And you do that thing where you're like, 'Will I ever be on the Walk of Fame someday?'”

Looks like the 69th Cannes Film Festival is going to be a good one! There's plenty to look forward to in both the In Competition and Out Of Competition categories for 2016, not least with the opening title being Woody Allen's romantic drama 'Cafe Society' starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart.

'Cafe Society' isn't the only movie from this year's Cannes line-up that Kristen Stewart will appear in either, because she also has the lead role in Olivier Assayas' fashion drama 'Personal Shopper' which will appear among the In Competition flicks. Xavier Dolan's 'Juste La Fin Du Monde' ('It's Only the End of the World') starring Léa Seydoux and Marion Cotillard is another French movie from that category.

Jodie Foster has tied the knot with girlfriend Alexandra Hedison.

The 51 year-old actress and her photographer beau said "I do" this past weekend, E!News reports.

Foster and Hedison reportedly began dating last summer (2013), when they were frequently spotted enjoying each other's company.

Woody Allen is to be awarded the Golden Globes' Cecil B. De Mille Award at next years awards show, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced on Friday, 13 September. The prolific writer, director, producer and actor will be bestowed with the award at the 71st Annual Golden Globes ceremony taking place on 12 January 2014.

Allen has been working in film for six decades

“There is no one more worthy of this award than Woody Allen,” HFPA president Theo Kingma said in the official announcement. He added, “His contributions to filmmaking have been phenomenal and he is an international treasure.”

Elysium, the science fiction action movie which stars Matt Damon, has headed straight for no.1 in the US Weekend Box Office. The film, released on Friday 9th, gained over $30 million in its opening weekend.

Matt Damon stars in Elysium as Max: a man living on post-apocalyptic earth, who wants to achieve equal rights with those living on Elysium, a space station without disease or hunger. Jodie Foster features as the secretary of Elysium who decides, to protect their luxurious way of life, illegal immigrants should be killed and hires a mercenary to do the job (Sharlto Copley).

The year is 2154, two classes of people exist, the very wealthy – who live on a man-made space station called Elysium – and the poor, who live on an overpopulated ruined Earth. Neill Blomkamp’s dysoptian new movie, starring Matt Damon, is shiny, slick action movie that has somewhat divided critics, however, it is unanimously agreed that Elysium is one of the better action films of the year and Blomkamp appears to be pulling away from the peloton of directorial mediocrity and into the highest possible class.

In the movie, the people of Earth are clearly desperate to escape their poverty and reach ‘Elysium,’ which boasts state-of-the-art medical care, however, the privileged enforce strict anti-immigration laws in order to preserve their citizen’s luxurious lifestyle.

Damon comes into the equation as Max, an ordinary guy who is in desperate need to reach Elysium and so takes on a dangerous mission that pits him against the higher planet’s Secretary Delecourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces. Should he succeed, he will save millions of lives.

It's been four years since Neill Blomkamp exploded on to the movie scene with his acclaimed story about alien refugees; District 9, and since then movie nerds have been eagerly awaiting his follow-up project. The wait is nearly over though, as Elysium will be hitting cinemas later this month in the hopes of bringing movie-goers an original and exciting experience, as well as further cementing Blomkamp as one of the names to look out for in the future of Hollywood's more eccentric side.

Elysium reviews have been mixed. The sci-fi movie has been compared to director Neill Blomkamp's earlier work and Matt Damon's performance criticised and described as weighty.

Elysium has been, rather unfairly it could be argued, to director Neil Blomkamp's 2009 science fiction hit District 9. Critics approved, largely unanimously, that the film was "intriguing, inventive and energetic" (Film 4). Generally that was was a fresh look at a sci-fi dystopia.

With it's release getting ever-closer, the Matt Damon-starring Elysium is being roundly pushed by Sony Pictures in a bid to get excitement for the film to more encouraging levels. To help this push for an impressive box office revenue, a new clip from the film has been released online showing off an action packed scene in which the film's star Damon fights off a team of robots hell-bent on taking him out. Damon wasn't the first choice for director Blomkamp during casting

Set in the year 2154, Damon's Max Da Costa character is living in a densely-populated Earth that has been reduced to rumble following countless outbreaks of war, illness and civil unrest. Whilst Da Costa and his fellow sufferers dwell on the planet's battered surfaced, the riches members of the human race live harmoniously on the Earth-orbiting Elysium, which offers pristine living conditions for the lucky few who live their, as well as an unmitigated supply of health care equipment and complete lack of poverty. An ailing Max, determined to survive and bring social order to the world at last, must make his way on to the exclusive orbiting resort to retrieve supplies that could save an ailing world, and change to social order irreparably.

Summer blockbuster season kicked off this week with the release of the new Tom Cruise action-adventure Oblivion, which is also the first in a seemingly endless series of post-apocalyptic movies headed our way over the next couple of years. Tom is currently travelling around the world with costars Olga Kurylenko and Andrea Riseborough for Oblivion premieres in various countries.

Another recent release in the UK and US is The Place Beyond the Pines, a dark drama that reunites Ryan Gosling with Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance. The film also stars Bradley Cooper, who has been in the news this week after stepping in for Jude Law in the troubled Western thriller Jane Got a Gun. Director Gavin O'Connor (Warrior) has also come on board after the sudden departure of Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin). It's now filming in New Mexico with costars Natalie Portman and Joel Edgerton.

Mel Gibson is once again at the center of speculation after it was rumored that he may be the father of Jodie Foster's children. The tales began on Twitter almost immediately after the actress' Golden Globes speech, during which she cleared up rumors about her sexuality. Some viewers highlighted the likeness between Foster's sons Charles, 14, Kit, 12, and Gibson as they sat together at the awards' ceremony.

In her heartfelt speech, Foster told the Braveheart actor, "You know, you save me, too." She has never revealed her son's paternity and reportedly said she won't tell them until they turn 21. "The kids look like him [Gibson] but blonder," said one amateur genealogist told the New York Post. It would go some way to explaining Foster's fierce loyalty to Mel Gibson, despite his anti-Semitic scandals and alleged abusive treatment of Oksana Grigorieva, his former Russian girlfriend and mother to his daughter Lucia, 3. 

While Hollywood movie producers shunned Gibson, Foster worked with him on the 2011 movie The Beaver and called him "one of the most loved people in the business," adding, "He's not saintly and he's got a big mouth. But I knew the minute I met him that I would love him the rest of my life."

In Your Face, Academy! Well, one of the strangest Oscar snubs in recent memory appears to have made the Academy look very silly indeed. Ben Affleck won Best Director at the Golden Globes on Sunday for Argo, which also won Best Drama. The actor-turned-filmmaker will not feature in the same category at the Oscars, though we guess won't be TOO bothered now.

The Brave One: It was pretty eventful Golden Globes by all accounts, with actress Jodie Foster finally coming out over her sexuality after years of ambiguity. The Silence of The Lambs star and two-times Oscar winner delivered a typically humorous and emotional speech, leaving much of the gathered audience in tears.

Jodie Foster isn’t the only Hollywood star whose privacy regarding their sexuality has been stripped back a little, recently. Though Jodie Foster chose to speak publicly about being gay, at the Golden Globes awards, Victor Garber’s ‘coming-out’ was sprung on him, somewhat, at the TCA winter press tour, when blogger Greg Hernandez asked about a Wikipedia entry, which mentions his partner Rainer Andreesen.

Much like Jodie Foster, Garber has never kept his sexuality under wraps, as such, but has not made any grand public declaration about being gay. He did confirm, however, that he intended to attend the Screen Actors Guild Awards later this month, with his partner Rainer. “He’s going to be out here with me for the SAG Awards,” said Victor, before adding “My companion Rainer Andreesen and I have been together almost 13 years in Greenwich Village. We both love New York.” Steering away from the subject.

Back on the subject of acting, Garber revealed that his forthcoming TV series Deception (on NBC) was the first in a while that has excited him enough to get involved. “I'm a lucky actor,” he said. “I work. But this is the first series that's come along since Eli Stone, three years ago, that I really wanted to do... For an actor, it's like getting a dessert - like getting what you hope for and rarely get.”

Jodie Foster's Golden Globes speech was quite something, huh? We can't imagine anyone was expecting that. Of course, the headlines will be about her sexuality, and for someone pleading for privacy, she certainly picked the least private moment to come out to the world, but if it sends out a message of equality, then who are we to judge. 

"Whenever anybody of the stature of Jodie Foster, a respected actress for almost 50 years, comes out and talks about her personal life and sexuality it's a big deal," Wilson Cruz, GLAAD spokesperson and actor on My So-Called Life, told E! News. Cruz also noted that while "some people want [Foster] to be more forthright...it is not our job to tell people how or when to come out..." Cruz added that Foster used Sunday as "a great opportunity for her to say I am not ashamed of who I am."Fred Sainz, spokesperson for Human Right Campaign, thought Foster's speech "took an incredible amount of guts and she should be commended for this and she was under no responsibility to do so."

"While awkward and clearly uncomfortable, the sense of the message I got was that she didn't want [her sexuality] to be the headline," Sainz added. "She merely wants to be known for the quality of her work and relationships in her life and not her sexuality and that is a lofty goal we are all working towards."

The question as to why Jodie Foster was honoured with the esteemed Golden Globe 'Cecil B DeMille Award' is a far easier one to answer than why it has taken so long for her to be recognised for her talents and "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment". With starring roles in some of the late 20th century's most iconic movies, she has been at the cornerstone of the American film industry for almost 40 years. Her acceptance speech at the ceremony (13th Jan), while slightly enigmatic, shed further light and further reason as to why she is more than deserving of the award.

Born in 1962, Foster's rise to fame came early. She appeared in TV's Paper Moon during the 70s and by 1976, aged just 14, she had landed the role that would catapult her into the attention of the masses- co-starring as Iris Steensma in Taxi Driver alongside Robert DeNiro. She won two BAFTAs for the role as well as landing her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her role in the 1988 thriller The Accused saw her win both the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Actress, and did the same just two years later for her starring appearance in Silence of the Lambs. Her career has never slowed and she has also turned her hand at producing and directing. 

In her speech she left everyone reeling though when she came out as gay. "I already did my coming out a thousand years ago, in the Stone Age," she said, quoted by CBS. "Those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually to everyone that knew her, everyone she actually met. But now apparently I'm told that every celebrity is expected to honor the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance, and a primetime reality show... my reality show would so boring."

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were widely hailed as successful hosts of last night’s Golden Globes, keeping it clean but funny. So much so that it caused the Guardian to remark that it was something of a ground-breaking moment in awards history. “Something rather important happened last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Something groundbreaking. Something record-setting,” they wrote. “Tina Fey and Amy Poehler proved that hosts of an awards ceremony can actually be funny.” Now, of course, all eyes are turning to Seth Macfarlane, who – somehow – has to try and do the same at the Oscars. No pressure, there Seth… no pressure.

MacFarlane was clearly taking notes last night, ahead of his Oscars moment and he was quick with the praise for the duo. “Please give Tina and Amy high marks because they did great,” he told the press and explained that he’s well aware of the pressure that he’s under, as the Oscars host and said “Oscars hosts always get thrashed.” Of course, Tina and Amy had the benefit, you could argue, of having each other to bounce off and work with. Seth won’t have the luxury of a comedy partner but what he will have is the eyes of the world upon him. The Golden Globes are a mere precursor to the international weight of the Oscars.

Poehler and Fey were careful not to cause the kind of barrel-scraping outrage that Ricky had done before them and it seems that the raciest thy got with their jokes was probably in relation to Kathryn Bigelow, when Fey said “I haven't been following the controversy about 'Zero Dark Thirty,' but when it comes to torture, I'll trust the lady who was married to James Cameron for three years.” They ended the evening by announcing that they were going home with Jodie Foster who had just been on the stage confirming that, as the world kind of knew anyway, she was definitely gay. If we were Seth MacFarlane, we’d be worried; seems like Amy and Tina got to all the good jokes first, huh?

Though the Oscars is undoubtedly the big one, there’s traditionally been a lot of love for the Golden Globes among the Hollywood fraternity, with the event being seen as a generally looser, less formal affair than its prestigious counterpart – even if the actors have had to cope with the barbs of Ricky Gervais in recent years. The jibes still came from Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, but they were delivered with far more good grace than those thrown by the British comic.

Many awards were given out at last night’s Golden Globes awards but the real stand-out appearance of the evening was Jodie Foster’s acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

An award given for a lifetime of achievement in the movie industry, the award was a deserved one for Foster, who began acting as a toddler and at the age of 50, is celebrating 47 years in the industry. Foster’s speech was noted not just for her achievements in the world of film, though. Although Foster’s sexuality has never exactly been a secret, she used last night’s moment in the spotlight not only to publicly acknowledge that she is gay, but also to assert the importance of privacy and to question why it’s so important that everyone in the public eye must turn their private life into public property.

“I already did my coming out about 1,000 years ago,” said Jodie, “back in the Stone Age." She explained that she had never hidden her sexuality, had come out as gay to those that she met and to those that mattered. “If you’d had to fight for a life that felt real and honest, against all odds, maybe then you too would value privacy beyond all other things.” Questioning why all public figures needed to splash the details of their lives over the media (accompanied by reality shows and fragrance ranges), she pointed out “you guys might be surprised but I am not Honey Boo Boo child.”
