Appearing on ‘The Graham Norton Show’, Foster said that after seeing Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter during the first day read through, the actor had scared her so much that she didn't want to talk to him again.

Jodie Foster Went Old School For Money Monster

Jodie Foster

Jodie Foster says the combination of real drama and meaningful action were what drew her to the project. "When I first read it, it was a really cool satire," she says. "It evolved from there. We spent a couple of years developing the screenplay, bringing in technology, the financial world right now, media and how all of those things dovetail. That changed everything."

She calls it the kind of movie studios rarely make anymore, and she says that's what makes it feel fresh. "It goes back to the old-school way of doing things," Foster says. "There are lots of turns that are unexpected. It's a general-public movie that's a taut thriller. I think you have an idea of what that's going to be, with big movie stars, but I just wanted to make the movie I wanted to make."

Jodie Foster Comments On Gender Wage Inequality In Hollywood

Jodie Foster

Money Monster director Jodie Foster has commented on the gender wage gap in Hollywood, saying that it’s a valid issue but that she tries to not let it rile her up in her approach to her work.

“In terms of pay, it’s hard for me to get interested in millionaires worried about who gets paid more,” Foster said, explaining that the market effectively dictates what an actor or actress will make on a project and that the main factor for studios as they negotiate pay is risk.

Jodie Foster & New Love Interest Alexandra Hedison Enjoy Sunday Brunch

Jodie Foster Alexandra Hedison

Does Jodie Foster have a new paramour? The 50-year-old was spotted having a quiet lunch with possible girlfriend Alexandra Hedison. Although the brunch date seemed an informal affair with the pair wearing loose trousers, t-shirts and sandals, yet despite the possible couple's casual attire, they appeared "close and intimate" according to Us Weekly.

Jodie Foster may have a new girlfriend.

This would certainly corroborate what the sources have to say on the matter. E!'s sources claim Foster and Hedison are "total in love." There have been rumours that the couple are living together. This would certainly make sense when one considers Hedison's decision to sell her two bedroomed Laurel Canyon home on 13 Septemer. The two were photographed by paparazzi on Sunday (6 Oct.) in Hollywood.

Elysium Review

Excellent

As he did with District 9, South African filmmaker Blomkamp grounds this sci-fi thriller in present-day society, telling a story that resonates with a strong political kick. He also again uses effects in a off-handed way that never steals focus from the actors. On the other hand,he fails to build much of an emotional impact, even though the script continually tries to ramp up the personal drama. But the actors are all very watchable, and the film's urgent vibe keeps us gripped.

It's set in 2154 Los Angeles, a sprawling shantytown where people struggle to survive without adequate resources or health care. In orbit above the earth, Elysium is an idyllic refuge for the very wealthy. Protected by the fierce Secretary Rhodes (Foster), Elysium's only threat is illegal immigration from the surface. And that's what factory worker Max (Damon) wants to attempt after severe radiation poisoning. Even having a nurse (Braga) for a friend doesn't help him get proper care: he needs the high tech medicine on Elysium to survive. He turns to black-marketeer Spider (Moura) for help, and Spider fits Max with a devise that gives him physical strength plus technology to steal vital information from an Elysium contractor (Fichtner). So Rhodes unleashes sleeper agent Kruger (Copley) to stop Max.

Yes, the plot is somewhat convoluted, but the chaos makes it feel much more realistic than the more simplistic thrillers we usually see. It also helps that the digital effects feel so seamlessly integrated into the shaky-cam mayhem of the favelas, while even the more grandly photographed Elysium leaves the effects in the background. This allows Blomkamp to keep the focus on the characters, even if the splintering plot never draws us in emotionally. Braga's plotline is clearly designed to tug at the heart-strings, but her tentative romance with Max never goes anywhere. Max's friendship with Julio (Luna) is much more interesting.

Jennifer Lawrence Amongst Time Magazine's Time 100 Cover Stars

Jennifer Lawrence Jodie Foster Jay Z Mindy Kaling Ed Helms

The annual list of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people is being published this week, previewed today (April 18, 2013) on USA Today. This year, the magazine will be publishing seven different covers, each with a different person on the front. On the domestic issues, Jennifer Lawrence, Jay-Z, Elon Musk (CEO and founder, SpaceX; co-founder, Tesla Motors and PayPal), Sen. Rand Paul and teen activist Malala Yousafzai each landed a slot, whilst the international covers were split between Aamit Khan and Li Na.

Each of the people on the list is profiled by another celebrity or well-known figure. Jodie Foster wrote about Jennifer Lawrence, saying “You'll remember where you were when you first felt it, how you were stuck to one spot like a small animal considering its end. The Jennifer Lawrence Stare. It cuts a searing swath in your gut. A reckoning. I remember going to the cutting rooms of Winter's Bone. I thought, Sure, this girl can act. But, man, this girl can also just be." The comic actress Mindy Kaling was profiled by her Office co-star Ed Helms, who said “Mindy Kaling embodies the trifecta of being brilliant, wonderful and hilarious. Because that is statistically impossible, it can mean only one thing: she was created by an evil scientist to lull us into a giddy stupor in order to control our minds. … To be made fun of by Mindy is to feel special. I've learned so much from working alongside her, and I'm proud to call her a friend. I just wish she hadn't been created by an evil scientist.”

The US president Barack Obama was included on the list for the eighth time – that’s more than any other person currently on the list. 35 women were included on this year’s list.

Elysium Trailer

It's the year 2154 and Max Da Costa is living in the densely populated, crime and war ravaged wasteland that is the planet Earth. Meanwhile, the rich and the privileged live on an orbital settlement in space called Elysium which boasts perfect landscapes, no poverty and medical advancements that can eliminate illnesses such as cancer in half a second. Despite Earth being a disease-stricken planet with little resources to go around, Secretary Rhodes is vehemently strict with her immigration laws disallowing anyone of a lower class to be allowed into their utopia even in the case of the most serious of illnesses. An ailing Max is determined to survive, however, even if it means embarking on a highly dangerous mission to break into the highly guarded space habitat and retrieve medical resources that could save him and the rest of the suffering population.

Jodie Foster Speech Inspires People To Come Out... But Cryptically

Jodie Foster Kristen Stewart

Jodie Foster's incredible, if not slightly cryptic speech at The Golden Globes, has inspired people to be true to themselves and come out to their friends and family, but just as strangely as Foster chose to.

"Jodie Foster is being hailed as a possibly gay icon after kind of coming out during a speech at the Golden Globe Awards," The Onion reported. "The actress has become a role model to LGBT youth who are taking her lead by also giving moving but confusing coming out speeches to their friends and family." A young man in a YouTube clip is seen saying: "I have to be honest and say something that's been on my mind. And you already know it, so there it is." Foster's speech has also given rise to an awareness project for young people titled 'We are all single, just kidding, but seriously, I am together, in this room'.

Foster's denial that she's quitting the game (the acting and directing game, that is) has inspired Kristen Stewart to work with her old friend. Her buddy according to Entertainmentwise said: "Kristen knows she has a lot to learn still as an actor and obviously as a director. She's interested in possibly directing one day, and wants to learn from the best. To her, Jodie is the best. She has always been such a dear friend to Kristen," adding:  "Kristen has always admired Jodie's sense of integrity and authenticity."

Jodie Foster Comes Out; But Is Her Movie Career Still Alive?

Jodie Foster Matt Damon Neill Blomkamp

"Jodie Foster comes out!" were the cries from the entertainment press following the actress' Golden Globes speech on Sunday (January 13, 2013) during which she cleared up any ambiguity surrounding her sexuality and made a heartfelt plea for privacy in Hollywood. Foster - who was accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Beverly Hilton Hotel - told the star-studded audience, "I already did my big coming out about a thousand years ago in the stone age, in those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends, and family, co-workers and then gradually, proudly, to everyone who knew her."

"If you had been a public figure since the time you were a toddler, if you had to fight for a life that felt real and honest and normal against all odds, then maybe you too would value privacy above all else," she added. Ok, so everyone applauded Foster's openness (several audience members even cried), though after a long and distinguished career, is the 50-year-old still considered amongst Hollywood's premier band of leading ladies? Quiz anyone on their favourite Jodie Foster movie and the answer will invariably be Taxi Driver, The Accused or Silence of the Lambs, the latest of which hit cinemas in 1991. Ok, so there's been a couple of good movies since - most notably Panic Room (2006) and Inside Man (2006) - though shouldn't a two-time Oscar winner have been offered stronger roles in the supposed peak years of her career? Perhaps Foster still has award-winning roles ahead of her, ala Meryl Steep, Helen Mirren and Glenn Close.

A recent directorial foray with The Beaver didn't turn out well. Although the comedy-drama had an interesting premise, Mel Gibson's central performance was panned by critics. The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw said, "Contrived, self-admiring and self-pitying, unfunny, burdened with a central performance which is unendurably conceited and charmless." Perhaps things will turn around for Foster with Elysium, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp's forthcoming sci-fi set in the year 2159, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population reside on a ruined earth. Sounds a reasonable enough sci-fi offering, though something in the script has attracted Matt Damon to play the lead role of Max. Foster will play a government official.

Cecil B. DeMille Award At The Golden Globes To Be Awarded To Jodie Foster.

Jodie Foster Golden Globe Awards

At the age of just 49, Jodie Foster has a career spanning 46 years. It is partly due to this incredible longevity that she will be receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globe Awards next year. Of course, her talent, range and dedication, alongside this longevity, make her the obvious recipient for next year's awards. She's also the youngest person to win the award since 1967 when Charlton Heston won it aged just 43, and she's also only the twelfth woman to ever receive the award since its conception in 1952.

The news was revealed by Twilight's Kristen Strewart and The Mentalist's Simon Baker, at the Beverly Hills Hotel this morning (1st Nov 2012). Reported by CBS, Aida Takla O'Reilly, from The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, said "Jodie is a multifaceted woman that has achieved immeasurable amounts of success and will continue to do so in her career. Her ambition, exuberance and grace have helped pave the way for budding artists in this business."

Foster's filmography is more than impressive and sees her star in a drastic range of roles, from the pre-pubescent prostite Iris, in 1979's Taxi Driver, to Clarice Stirling in the chilling movie Silence of the Lambs, for which she won the Oscar for 'Best Actress' at the Academy Awards, just three years after winning it for The Accused. She has also directed and produced a variety of films, all of which adds to her impressive portfolio of work.

Carnage Review

Excellent
Based on Reza's play God of Carnage, this claustrophobic film features only four characters in a single New York apartment. But the acting and directing, as well as a fiendishly entertaining script, make it absolutely riveting.

After their 11-year-old sons are involved in a playground fight, their parents meet to make sure everything is fine. Penelope and Michael (Foster and Reilly), parents of the injured boy, are happy to let bygones be bygones until they begin to suspect that Nancy and Alan (Winslet and Waltz) aren't properly punishing their son. Over the course of the next hour or so, liaisons shift as their civilised surface gives way to seething bitterness. And it certainly doesn't help that they open a bottle of Scotch.

His concerned parents decide the best way to tackle the problem is to invite Zachary's parents, Nancy and Alan, over to their house to talk things over.

The Beaver Review

Very Good
While there are too many carefully constructed moments in this film, it's a remarkably effective mixture of dark drama and absurd comedy. This is surprising because the premise is more than a little ridiculous.

After a nervous breakdown, Walter (Gibson) is struggling to get back into his role as CEO of a toy company, husband to Meredith (Foster) and father to two boys, smart 17-year-old Porter (Yelchin) and curious young Henry (Stewart).

When Walter finds a beaver puppet, he has an epiphany, letting the beaver say what he's afraid to say. While this helps reinvigorate his business and adds a lively twist to his family life, it's not exactly a permanent solution.

Bugsy Malone Review

Weak
Fourteen-year-old Jodie Foster had a very busy and very weird year in 1976. There was Freaky Friday for Disney, there was Taxi Driver for Scorsese, and then there was this. Thirty years after its release, Bugsy Malone, an adult gangster comedy/musical in which all the roles are played by children, can make you nostalgic for the '70s and the '30s at the same time. That this oddity was directed by Alan "Midnight Express" Parker, only makes the whole thing more bizarre. Watching the always amazing Jodie vamp it up with her co-star, '70s teen dreamboat Scott Baio, as they lip sync to tracks of the adults who sing for them is one of the stranger cinematic experiences you'll ever have. Forgive me if I pause a moment to go look up more synonyms for "weird."

Basically a story of warring gangs, Bugsy Malone introduces us to Fat Sam (John Cassisi) and Dandy Dan (Martin Lev), who are battling for turf. Bugsy (Baio) shows up at Sam's bar and meets Blousey Brown (Florrie Duggal), who wants to be a star. When the bar is raided, Dandy Dan breaks out his new weapon, a "Splurge gun" that shoots whipped cream. Bugsy and Blousey hit it off, but he's also caught the eye of sexy vamp Talullah (Foster), who always gets her man. Do you care?

The Cutting Edge: The Magic Of Movie Editing Review

Very Good
While "magic" may be a little strong, The Cutting Edge: The Magic of Movie Editing is a surprisingly interesting film. If you're a filmmaker or an aspiring critic, it may well be essential viewing.

This documentary is precisely what it's title purports to be, an in-depth and instructive look at movie editing that literally spans 100 years of film history, from The Great Train Robbery to Cold Mountain. Through interviews with a copious number of directors and editors, The Cutting Edge covers everything from basic editing techniques like the matching of cuts to modern editing theory as inspired by MTV and The Matrix. The film goes into extreme detail in parts, like when we get to see James Cameron's trick of removing one frame per second out of Terminator 2 to give it more momentum and realism. It's all a little bit insidery and self-congratulatory, but the movie works far more often than not. Any film buff will find it hard not to like.

Anna & The King Review

Good

Because "Anna and the King" stands on its own remarkably well, it may be unfair to begin this review with a comparison to "The King and I," the most famous film adapted from the same source material. But what I found most striking about the elegant, intelligent remake is how acutely aware it made me of the insulting Euro-centricity of its predecessors.

In the same story told in 1946 ("Anna and the King of Siam"), 1956 (from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical) and 1999 (that dreadful cartoon version), widowed English schoolteacher Anna Leonowens has always been portrayed as a much wiser, civilized woman who teaches the elaborate but backwards Asian monarch to think like a European, to waltz like a European and shapes his diplomatic policy by whispering in his ear.

The prudent but powerful screenplay for this non-musical, epic remake -- directed by Andy Tennant, who so successfully reinvented Cinderella in "Ever After" -- puts this Anna (played by Jodie Foster) and this King (Chow Yun-Fat) on very equal footing, making their relationship far more combative and compelling.
