Jimmy Fallon showed that he’s fully recovered from the nasty accident in which he nearly lost his finger by joining U2 onstage at their Madison Square Garden gig last night.

Having been photographed without his cast on Wednesday, ‘The Tonight Show’ host was invited onstage for a surprise appearance at the rock supergroup’s New York gig that night (July 22nd). He joined in with the rendition of ‘Desire’ on harmonica and cracked a few jokes at his and the group’s expense.

“I'm a big fan of Irish people that fall down and hurt themselves,” Fallon said, referencing guitarist The Edge’s recent stage tumble. “So you're like a mentor to me, brother. Edge, what you did a couple of weeks ago falling off the stage was classic, brother. I'm happy to be a part of the club.”

U2 were scheduled to make a week’s worth of appearances on ‘The Tonight Show’ last November, but that had to be cancelled after Bono sustained serious injuries after crashing a push bike in Central Park. Hip/hop soul veterans The Roots filled in at the time, and after ‘Desire’ had finished, Fallon also brought the Philly band onto the stage for a three-way jam on ‘Angel of Harlem’.

When he returned to hosting duties last Monday (July 13th), 40 year old Fallon explained how the freak accident had nearly cost him his left ring finger. Back on June 26th, the presenter was taken to hospital having tripped on a rug in his Manhattan apartment, catching his wedding ring on the side of a table while falling.

He tweeted “almost ripped my finger off” the next day, and revealed on the show that he had spent six hours in surgery to repair the damage and a further 10 days in the intensive care unit, saying that everything should be back to normal in eight weeks.
