Jeremy Warmsley How We Became Album

Though there are some elegant moments in How We Became and the production is impeccable, the overall tone of the album is witheringly pedestrian. I expected Warmsley's music to conjure images in my head of young lovers gambolling across a heather-strewn moor. Listening to an entire album of his meanderings, however, I merely have images of strangers conversing at the water cooler on a corporate training day, whilst the bosses try to show how hip they are by playing this sub-Jamie T dude.

In a world of peaks and troughs, though, let's be forgiving to poor old Warmsley, for his heart is broken, he is shy, he's doing his best, he's lost his cool, etc, etc. 'Dancing With The Enemy' is a neat little off-kilter pop song that wouldn't have been out of place in the post-punk wasteland of the early 1980s.

Warmsley is an accomplished adventurous musician but lyrically, he may as well be reading from a 1950's recipe book. It sounds as though it should be moving. But it isn't.
