What to expect when you're expecting the Tonys 2014.
Tony’s, Tony’s, Tonyyyy’s! Cue life affirming musical montage. It’s almost TIme for the 2014 Tony Awards! Has it been that long since last year’s? Well, yes. This year’s lineup looks mega promising, so here’s a little rundown of what to expect tonght.
A decade after his first time hosting, Hugh Jackman returns to fill some big shoes.
This year’s host is Hugh Jackman and while we’ll miss NPH, that beacon of Tony excellence, as a host (don’t worry, he’s still dropping by to perform with the cast of Hedwig and the Angry Itch), Mr. Jackson’s past appearances at the awards are no less a thing to behold. Example:
The news that Michael Jace has been arrested for the murder of his wife is shocking, but it's not the first time that Hollywood has been shaken by a celebrity crime.
The shocking news that “The Shield” actor Michael Jace killed his wife of 10 years has shocked the entertainment world. For non-celebrities the life of famous people always seems so glamorous and stress-free, so it’s a surprise when it turns out their lives can be more troubled and complicated below the surface than anyone had ever realised.
Natalie Wood, pictured with James Dean, mysteriously drowned while on a yachting trip with her husband and Christopher Walken
The world was just as rocked by these shocking celebrity crimes as it was by Jace’s arrest and subsequent confession.

Jennifer Hudson opens up about massive 80 pounds weight loss: "You can't let what everyone has to say overshadow what you want for you."
Exactly one week ago today Rachel Frederickson was declared the winner of Biggest Loser's fifteenth season, after shedding roughly 60% of her bodyweight.
However the dramatic weight loss from 260 pounds to 105 under the show's rigorous exercise and diet regimen, and time spent on her own before the finale, has garnered plenty of criticism.
Many viewers have wondered whether that much weight loss in a short amount of time wouldn't be harmful to the contestant's health.
Carey's performance was the perfect way to unveil the new single.
The 2014 BET Awards, honoring Aretha Franklin, Motown founder Berry Gordy, the late Nelson Mandela and others for their achievements, were taped on February 8th at the Warner Theater in Washington D.C. The award show served as a platform for Mariah Carey to perform her new song “You’re Mine” for the first time.
It was the kind of dress that only Mariah and Jessica Rabbit could possibly pull off.
Like the diva she is, Mariah appeared onstage in a low-cut black dress, perched atop a grand piano. With a few spotlights and the song’s chill vibe, the low key performance had an intimate, club vibe to it. Before the show, Carey tweeted a picture of herself in her glamorous, figure hugging outfit, adding the caption: “At Rehearsals for the #BEThonors #GLambly”.

As with any award show, there had to be at least a little drama.
Jennifer Hudson is in the news again, this time for her appearance at the People’s Choice Awards. Apparently Hudson didn’t have a very good time at the awards Tuesday night, and even threatened to leave at one point. The reason was rapper and former pal Lord Kraven, who also made an appearance. Hudson was not having it.
The guestlist just wasn't working for Hudson.
According to RadarOnline, the Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom star didn’t hesitate to make an ultimatum. "Jennifer loudly threatened 'Either he leaves or I leave,' and was waving her finger in the face of a security guard," a source told the website. The conflict soon moved outside of the main auditorium, with security attempting to escort the rapper out. At one point the conflict apparently got so heated that the police the Los Angeles Police Department were forced to intervene. When they did arrive at the scene however, the cops decided that the security officers had "acted in haste" and they offered to "escort the rapper back to the awards show."

Hudson helps explain the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to young people with some hilarious results.
With the launch of its new Affordable Care Act (ACA), AKA Obamacare, The White House needed a little help making the information of its new healthcare scheme accessible. Realising most youngsters spend their time of the internet these days, White House officials invited a group of celebrities to sit and discuss ways of communicating the aims and benefits of Obamacare through pop culture.
Jennifer Hudson Used Her Talents As Actress & Comedian To Help Educate People.
Jennifer Hudson, Amy Poehler, and representatives for both Alicia Keys and Oprah Winfrey headed to The White House to form strategies of introducing Obamacare to the younger generations without making it seem like a lecture.
The singer/actress lampooned Kerry Washington's character on the hit presidential-scandal drama for an Obamacare PSA
Jennifer Hudson and the online team over at Funny Or Die hooked up for a scandalous campaign promoting the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare as it is more widely known. Spoofing the hit ABC series Scandal, the Oscar-winner parodied Kerry Washington's character from the political drama in a promotional bid to further explain the long-fought-for piece of health care legislation.
Hudson teamed up with Funny or Die for the Obamacare promotional video
Donning an Olivia Pope-esque white trenchcoat, Hudson looked every inch the crisis manager as she met with various in-need people across Washington D.C. to tell them about the numerous benefits afforded to them thanks to Obamacare. Initially meeting with a shady-looking government official-type who asks whether she's "the fixer," to which she tells him, "I prefer covert scandal manager."

With a heavy dose of tragedy and social commentary, this one probably won't leave anyone unaffected.
The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete looks like one of those stories that leave a bad taste in your mouth, precisely because of how well-made they are. Mister is a 13-year-old boy living in poverty in Brooklyn, taking care of his younger brother Pete and trying to help his convicted, substance-dependent mother find a job that doesn’t require a background check.
When his mother is once again jailed. However, Mister is forced to fend for himself. He also has to take care of 9-year-old Pete, while the two hide from social workers, the police and worst of all – the criminals his mother was involved with. Mister is often reduced to begging on the street to feed himself and little Pete. Gradually, the boy learns that his mother isn’t going to return, even after she is let free.
Mister is a 13-year-old boy living amongst the poverty stricken suburbs of Brooklyn, New York. The third 'American Idol' judge has been announced. Dr. Luke will be joining Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez on the judging panel for season 13 of the reality show.
Dr. Luke will be joining Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez on the judging panel of American Idol. Dr. Luke a.k.a. Lukas Gottwald is the third judge to be announced with another yet to be agreed upon. E! first reported the news.
Dr Luke (L) with Katy Perry and Max Martin (R) with their ASCAP Awards in 2012.
Gottwald is a songwriter and producer who is responsible for the likes of Kelly Clarkson's 'Since U Been Gone'; Kesha's 'Tik Tok' and Katy Perry's 'California Gurls'. As Urban and Lopez are involved in the performance side of the music industry, Gottwald is likely to provide an interesting perspective when judging the televised singing competition.
When young Winnie Madikizela first set eyes on lawyer and anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela in 1957, it was love at first sight and it wasn't long before she became Mrs Winnie Mandela. However, their idyllic life was soon to be torn apart when he was arrested five years later and later charged with life imprisonment for conspiring to overthrow the state. Winnie did anything but give up though. She embarked on an activism campaign of her own, determined not to let her husband's voice be forgotten and tirelessly working on winning his freedom. John Fogerty has enlisted a number of musical luminaries for his new album.
Nobody can accuse John Fogerty of resting on his laurels. The former Creedence Clearwater Revival singer has teamed up with the likes of Foo Fighters, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, Jennifer Hudson and Kid Rock for his new album 'Wrote A Song For Everyone' - featuring fresh takes on his classic hits.
Fogerty, who released the new record on his 68th birthday on Tuesday (May 28, 2013), revamped some of his Creedence work, along with solo hits and new songs. It was in fact Fogerty's wife who had the idea of a collaborative effort, "She suggested getting all my favorite artists to do various songs, and it seemed like a great idea - to do fresh arrangements and interpretations of them," Fogerty told Reuters.
"It's remarkably hard to get 14 different artists organized, as they're all busy with their own careers, touring and recording," Fogerty said. "Everyone wanted to do it but I had no idea it'd be so difficult."
Former 'American Idol' finalist Jennifer Hudson is rumoured to be on the judging panel for season 13.
Jennifer Hudson is reportedly in talks about becoming a judge on the 13th season of 'American Idol'; the same show on which she became a finalist in season 3.
The 'Dreamgirls' star and Grammy winning pop star has had previous experience in talent show judging, having become Kelly Rowland's guest mentor during the Judges Houses stage of the UK show 'The X Factor'. Now she could be set to revisit the beginnings of her own career though, this time, on the other side of the table according to a source in TheWrap. She made an appearance on the show recently for the finale and is allegedly now in talks with the producers. 'She got the offer and her reps are currently negotiating with [production company] Fremantle', said the source, adding, 'The show's producers feel they've lost their core audience. And they want to bring back former contestants in order to tell their core audience, 'We love you.' They know they've made some major mistakes over the past few seasons and they want to make it right with their fans.'

Jennifer Aniston appears to have undergone some cupping treatment recently.
On the face of it, Jennifer Aniston looked pretty swell at the premiere of her new Lifetime movie Call Me Crazy in Los Angeles this week. Wearing a simple black romper and her hair tied back in a ponytail, the Wanderlust star, 44, managed to stand out from the crowd with subtle elegance. But then there were the cupping marks.
The actress failed to hide a pattern of circular marls on her back, which People magazine said were probably the result of cupping, a Chinese form of alternative medicine designed to promote circulation. 'Cupping' normally uses small glass bulbs that are heated and placed on the skin. Sounds terrible right? Well, it often leaves red marks on the skin for several days, though encourages better circulation of blood.
While the history of cupping dates back thousands of years, the first uses are found in the teachings of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Other famous fans of the treatment are said to include Gwyneth Paltrow, which isn't exactly a surprise now is it?

Jennifer Aniston was the star attraction at the Call Me Crazy premiere in Los Angeles.
Jennifer Aniston stunned at the Los Angeles premiere of her upcoming television movie 'Call Me Crazy: A Five Film' this week. The former Friends star executive produced the movie - a compilation of short films about mental illness premiering April 20 on the Lifetime channel. At the premiere, Aniston joked that he's a total "pushover" when in charge.
For a television movie, Call Me Crazy boasts a pretty impressive looking cast, with Jennifer Hudson, Brittany Snow and Oscar winners Melissa Leo and Octavia Spencer. "We were lucky to get the cast that we got," Aniston told the BBC at Tuesday's premiere, "We want to our dream team and we just had all the star align, and people were just willing and excited to jump on board just because they wanted to be a part of this topic of mental illness. To remove the stigma to remove the shame."
Hudson gives a stirring performance in a particularly emotional role, saying, "I'm passionate about the things I do, and I felt that this was something that was worth doing. Mental illness is something that's there, that we don't realise it's there. I definitely wanted the chance to help raise awareness."

The Oscars stage will be graced by a host of stars this year as Musicals and James Bond are celebrated
Some big names have been added to the Oscar performers list this year – people like Jennifer Hudson, Catherine Zeta-Jones and the cast of Les Miserables will be joining already announced performers, including the cast of Les Miserables and some other massive names.
You might be sensing a pattern here. That’s right, this year’s Academy awards will be paying tribute to one of Hollywood’s most beloved format of the past decade – the good ol’ musical. The performances will highlight some of the most successful film musicals of the past ten years, including Dreamgirls, Chicago and of course Les Mis. That list of performers is beginning to make a whole lot more sense, right?
The show’s producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, made the announcement about the show’s theme last month and since then more and more performers have steadily been added to the list. We are pleased to have been able to amass so much talent to create the celebration of musicals of the last decade that we envisioned,” Zadan and Meron said in a joint statement.
Surviving children from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut will perform along with Jennifer Hudson at this weekend's Super Bowl XLVII pregame show, reports USA Today.
The league and footballers have been involved with the school and the community in various ways including Giants wide Victor Cruz visiting the family of Jack Pinto, a 6 year old boy who was killed during the tragic shooting in December. Jack was a big fan of Cruz and the Giants, he was even buried with a No. 80 Giants jersey - Cruz's number.
Players have also been supporting the school by wearing 'S.H.E.S.' stickers on helmets, holding moments of silence at games and making donations to relevant causes. The league are flying the children from the school and their families all the way to New Orleans whose performance will be broadcast just before Alicia Keys sings the national anthem, prior to the game beginning.
