Actress Jennifer Ehle has become the latest name to be added to the Fifty Shades of Grey movie adaptation cast list. The 43 year-old Pride and Prejudice actress will apparently play Anastasia Steele's mother, Carla, in the screen version of EL James' highly successful and saucy erotic trilogy.

Ehle's role will be that of a four-time married Southern woman who takes no nonsense, according to Deadline. The movie will be based on James' storyline of a naïve and sexually inexperienced student who is enrolled by a sadomasochistic billionaire who makes her his sex slave.

The movie seems to have been plagued by setbacks so far; although the film is due on release next summer, the main cast members Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson were only confirmed last month. The casting choice then received a vicious backlash with over 85,000 50 Shades fans adding their name to a Change.org petition to have the leads replaced by Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel.

Dakota Johnson

However, British director Sam Taylor-Johnson and her team ploughed on seemingly unphased by the internet hate and confident that they could deliver a cracking movie in the time they have. Hunnam and Johnson reportedly have "tangible chemistry" and all looks well for a movie as titillating as the novels.

It seems like the casting directors have made an excellent choice with Ehle. Although she does look a very youthful 43 year-old, she looks very similar to Dakota and would make a believable mother. The actress, who won a BAFTA, has the versatility and integrity that will help make 50 Shades a compelling movie, rather than just gratuitous smut.
