She's Funny That Way Review

Good

Wacky enough to make us smile but never laugh out loud, this screwball comedy harks back to those nutty 1970s farces Woody Allen used to make about a group of neurotic urbanites. Actually, filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich used to make those kinds of movies too (1972's What's Up Doc is a classic). But he gives this film an oddly muted tone and uneven cast, which leaves it enjoyably silly even though it's never very funny.

It's set in a version of Manhattan where everyone sees the same shrink, eats in the same restaurant and stays at the same hotel, conveniently. Isabella (Imogen Poots) is working as a hooker, and her next john is Arnold (Owen Wilson), who offers her $30,000 if she gives up being a call girl after tonight and pursues her dream of becoming an actress. Then when she goes for her first Broadway audition, she's shocked to discover that Arnold is the director, and her costars would be his wife Delta (Kathryn Hahn) and leery actor Seth (Rhys Ifans), who knows what she used to do for a living. Another ex-client (Austin Pendleton) is obsessing because Isabella has vanished, so he visits the tetchy therapist Jane (Jennifer Aniston), who not only happens to also be counselling Isabella but is dating the playwright Joshua (Will Forte) who fell for Isabella at her audition.

The entanglement between these seven characters is recounted in flashback as Isabella is interviewed by a jaded Hollywood reporter (Illeana Douglas), so the film has a rather episodic structure as it traces each slapstick encounter between these people. With the plot so ludicrously convoluted, it's up to the actors keep us entertained, and they're a mixed bag. Aniston is surprisingly funny as the short-tempered psychologist who really should be in therapy herself, and Hahn gets the balance just right between the manic emotion and the darker comedy. Ifans has his moments as well, creeping around the corners of most scenes. But Poots never quite convinces in the focal role, while Wilson merely recycles his usual hapless routine and Forte gets lost in the shuffle as the token nice guy.

'Cake' Shows Jennifer Aniston's Serious Side

With her stripped-down dramatic performance in 'Cake', everyone sat up to take notice of Jennifer Aniston's acting skills. Critics have called it an "anti-vanity vehicle", a role without make-up, hairstyling and flattering lighting.

Very Good

Jennifer Aniston delivers an Oscar-calibre performance in this rather over-worked drama, which tries to emphasise heavy-handed metaphors more than the characters themselves. But it's an involving personal odyssey thanks to Aniston's honest acting, and Daniel Barnz's sensitive direction manages to dodge most of the script's more glaring pitfalls.

Aniston plays Claire, a woman who has been in continual pain, both emotional and physical, following the car accident that claimed the life of her young son. Revelling in her bitter sarcasm, she has alienated her husband (Chris Messina), driven her physiotherapist (Mamie Gummer) to despair and so enraged her therapy leader (Felicity Huffman) that she's been thrown out of the group. The only person who patiently sticks by her side is her maid/assistant Silvana (Adriana Barazza), and she's beginning to waver. Then Nina (Anna Kendrick), a therapy-group member, commits suicide, making Claire question why she's still bothering to be alive. There has to be a spark of hope there, and she decides to stalk Nina's single-dad widower Roy (Sam Worthington) for answers.

While the premise seems to set up the usual story about two damaged souls healing each other, the story thankfully doesn't go down that tired route. Instead, Patrick Tobin's script keeps the interaction prickly and unexpected, even as it layers in so much symbolism that it becomes rather exhausting. Claire's physical scarring is clearly indicative of something deeper, as is her array of cruel defence mechanisms. Thankfully, Aniston plays these scenes with a mixture of black comedy and aching sadness that makes the character thoroughly involving and only slightly likeable. Her interaction with Barraza is the heart of the film, beautifully played because their connection remains mainly unspoken. By contrast, Worthington feels almost superfluous; he sharply matches Aniston's cynicism, but is too nice to register very strongly.

Horrible Bosses 2 Review

OK

Like The Hangover, Horrible Bosses was a movie no one really wanted to see a sequel to, but here it is anyway: the same film, but even more inane. It is also likely to make plenty of money from audiences looking for mindless entertainment on a Saturday night. Although "mindless" seems almost complimentary when a movie is as idiotic as this one is. There's so little to its plot that the whole film seems to evaporate before the end of the climactic chase scene.

It's been a couple of years since Nick, Kurt and Dale (Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day) tried to solve their problems by trying to kill their bosses. Instead, they've become inventors, and have just sold their Shower Buddy to a popular catalogue company owned by Bert (Christoph Waltz). They go all out to fill his order, putting their necks on the line, and Bert leaves them hanging there. Faced with the prospect of losing everything, they again consult their criminal pal Jones (Jamie Foxx), who helps them launch a "kidnaping". The idea is to grab Bert's son Rex (Chris Pine) and demand a ransom to cover their debts. But Rex takes over the operation, asking for a lot more cash and causing a lot more chaos. They also run into a couple of their old bosses: sex-crazed Julia (Jennifer Aniston) is still determined to sleep with Dale, while Harken (Kevin Spacey) can still freak them out from behind bars.

Director-writer Anders and cowriter Morris use almost the exact same formula this time, going for laughs in a carefully plotted caper in which everything that can go wrong does. Although instead of merely being inept, these people are all morons. Bateman's Nick is essentially the straight man in the movie, and even he fails to notice that they've borrowed and spent a vast sum of cash without even a simple contract with Bert. Meanwhile, Kurt and Dale are mind-achingly stupid, bungling every single moment so completely that it's hard to see them as functioning adults. Pine isn't much better, but at least we haven't seen this schtick from him before, and he's rather good at it.

Life Of Crime Review

Very Good

Although the plot itself is nothing special, this kidnapping comedy keeps the audience entertained by filling every scene with outrageous characters and twisty interaction. Based on an Elmore Leonard book, this free-wheeling movie is such a tangle of colourful people and riotous 1980s hairstyles that it can't help but be enjoyable. Especially once we realise that the story isn't the most important thing.

It's set in 1984 Detroit, where trophy wife Mickey (Jennifer Aniston) has finally had it with her chilly husband Frank (Tim Robbins). As she's thinking about taking their son (Charlie Tahan) and leaving, he's holed up in the Bahamas with his mistress Melanie (Isla Fisher) while preparing to serve Mickey with divorce papers. Just then, low-life criminals Louis and Ordell (John Hawkes and Yasiin Bey, aka Mos Def), kidnap Mickey and demand a $1 million ransom. Of course, Frank thinks his problem is solved until he realises that they also know about his dodgy business dealings. And things are further complicated by Louis and Ordell's Nazi-loving sidekick (Mark Boone Junior) and an amorous dork (Will Forte) who's in love with Mickey.

As the chaos escalates, writer-director Daniel Schechter keeps the focus tightly on the offbeat characters rather than the gyrations of the narrative. This makes it easy to identify with everyone on-screen, particularly Aniston and Hawkes, who have the most complex roles. They're the only people who have either emotional shadings or a story arc to travel, so watching them become increasingly aware of the opportunities around them is a lot of fun. Everyone else is here to get laughs, and it's amusing to see each of them reveal things about themselves that add to the mayhem, from Fisher's surprisingly savvy bombshell to Bey's womanising prowess. And of course each character approaches the various moral dilemmas from a distinct angle.

The new film welcomes Christoph Waltz and Chris Pine but of course, we'll be seeing some familiar faces, such as Kevin Spacey, Jennifer, and Jamie Foxx return in the sequel.

Horrible Bosses 2 - Teaser Trailer

Having previously got involved with a scheme to kill their abusive bosses (a plan which didn't go exactly as they thought), Nick, Dale and Kurt think they can do anything. Now under three new bosses that are equally mean, they decide that they want to start up their own business so that they don't have to take orders from superiors ever again. Everything seems to be in place until a cunning investor forces them to lose control of their entrepreneurial plans. With no legal standing and no money, the trio turn to their trusty crime consultant who suggests they start to be a little more ruthless if they want to pull off their latest scheme; to kidnap the investor's son and hold him for ransom. Nick, Dale and Kurt are hoping that everything will go to plan this time - but that's looking unlikely.

Matching her dapper significant other, Aniston rocked a flattering black-on-black ensemble. For the special occasion, she chose a rather conservative black shirt and an a relaxed black pencil skirt. She wore her hair in loose, tousled waves past her shoulders, and kept the accessories to a minimum—just earrings, a gold watch, and her huge diamond engagement ring.

Just What Was It That Made 'Friends' So Great?

Jennifer Aniston Matt Le Blanc Matthew Perry David Schwimmer Lisa Kudrow Courteney Cox

We’re feeling pretty nostalgic (and old) because it’s been ten years since the final episode of Friends aired. We’d sort of been getting by on the hope that a reunion episode would take place, but mean Matt LeBlanc ruined that dream. The actor, who played Joey, recently said: “That show was about a finite period of time in life, after college and before your relationship and family starts and where your friends are your support system. That’s what the magic of the show was - everyone goes through that and can relate to that.”

That wasn’t the only magic that Friends had. The reason that the show was so popular for so long was a combination of a dozen or so factors that just worked. The chemistry between the cast was palpable, you could just tell that Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox were best friends in real life and that translated onto their onscreen friendship.

Life Of Crime Trailer

Frank Dawson is a filthy rich, arrogant real estate developer who regularly takes 'business trips' in order to continue an affair with his young lover Melanie Ralston. During one of his trips away, his wife Mickey is held for ransom in her own home by a gang of masked men who call Frank to demand he deposit $1 million into an offshore bank account if he ever wants to see his wife again. But there's just one tiny problem: he doesn't want to see her again. He's been racking his brains to find a way he might possibly be able to leave her without the costly disadvantages of alimony, divorce costs and child support and now it seems the solution has finally dropped into his lap. Mickey doesn't believe Frank would pay that much to save her but now it's down to his own morals.

'Life Of Crime' is a crime comedy full of unexpected twists and turns. Based on the novel 'The Switch' by Elmore Leonard, the movie adaptation has been directed and written by Daniel Schechter ('Supporting Characters', 'Goodbye Baby', 'The Big Bad Swim') and it is due to be released in UK theatres on September 5th 2014.

The Top 5 Worst Rated Adam Sandler Movies

Adam Sandler Kevin James Chris Rock Drew Barrymore Jennifer Aniston Nicole Kidman

Adam Sandler's alleged humour responds with teenage boys, and teenage boys at heart, around the world. His films contain enough toilet humour and slapstick comedy to rival The Three Stooges. Unfortunately, few of them have ever gone down well with the critics.

Adam Sandler
Adam Sandler stars in Blended - but will it become one of his worst films ever?

His latest film, Blended, starring Drew Barrymore follows two single parents as they endure a disastrous blind date. Evidently despising each other, they are forced to meet again following a mix up and somewhere end up on vacation in Africa along with their numerous children. It's a fairly obvious cocktail, disgust will turn to love on the plains of Africa and the two will manage to unite their families. Along the way there'll be a host of silly antics and misunderstandings which will quickly be swept under the carpet whilst the sun sets on a romantic first kiss.

50 Cent And Bette Midler? Our Favorite Celebrity BFFs

Matt Damon Ben Affleck Bette Midler 50 Cent Rihanna Katy Perry Jennifer Aniston Courteney Cox Dakota Fanning Kristen Stewart Kim Kardashian Kelly Osbourne

Unlike Jennifer Lawrence and her rather normal best friend, Laura Simpson, celebs often pick other famous people to have as their BFFs. They all probably bump into each other at so many events that it’s difficult not to end up practically joined at the hip. Some of these celebrity BFFs you’ll already know about, some you’ll be totally surprised to hear have even met!  The phrase chalk and cheese comes to mind.

Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston have been BFFs since their Monica and Rachel days. The pair have seen each other through weddings and divorces, children and various film/TV projects. “We just have fun, we laugh, we’re inseparable and it’s great”, Cox said of Aniston, while her best friend in turn dubbed her “the most dependable and loyal”. Mutual appreciation society, or what?  We love it!  That's how all best friends should talk about each other in our opinion.

Why We Definitely Don't Need A 'Friends' Reunion

Jennifer Aniston Courteney Cox Matthew Perry

Twenty years ago we welcomed ‘Friends’ on to our television screens and ten years ago we bid the series an emotional farewell. But for some fans, the decade of laughs the show provided simply wasn't enough and talk of a ‘Friends’ reunion still persists, most recently when a faked poster appeared on twitter. The question is, why? Surely when the show gave us such a perfect ending, a ‘Friends’ reunion would just be a really really bad idea.

Jennifer AnistonJennifer Aniston Played Rachel Green on Friends

With the constant re-runs, we’ve never really been able to escape ‘Friends’ since it ended a decade ago and we’re not really complaining. The show has that comfortable familiarity with the viewer that ever sitcom strives for and when watching a re-run who hasn't thought ‘I wonder what these guys are up to now’? But that thought should really be followed by a somber slice of pure logic, a reunion just wouldn't be feasible. When the show began, the characters were in their mid twenties, figuring out their lives by way of failed relationships and jobs. Creator Marta Kauffman put it perfectly saying, ‘Friends was about that time in your life when your friends are your family.’ Bar Ross who was already one divorce in by the first series and also became a father, the ‘Friends’ gang were all initially free of serious relationships and children. As the show progressed we got the Ross and Rachel on and off saga and Monica and Chandler’s friendship blossoming into romance. Now, well, they’d all be over 40. Monica and Chandler would be raising the twins and Ross and Rachel would have a 12 year old daughter. So its difficult to imagine how the characters could be the same personalities we’d grown to love. Could you really imagine Phoebe being that ditzy pushing 50 or Joey being, well Joey, now well into his 40s? It would all just seem a little far fetched.

Miley Cyrus' Rather Polite Stalker Vs. Other Celebrity Stalkers

Miley Cyrus Selena Gomez Jennifer Aniston Anna Kournikova Mark Zuckerberg

Miley Cyrus has a fairly polite (but gramatically challenged) stalker. Instead of hiding in her dressing room wearing a ghostface mask and brandishing duct tape, he simply entered her dressing room and left a note. The note wasn’t even that peculiar, in the grand scheme of celebrity stalkers.

miley cyrus stalker Tyler snuck backstage at Miley's Bangerz tour

Tucker Salvesen wrote to Miley: “I snuck back here I need to meet you. You have helped me so much your music has given me all the answers I was looking for when my heart got broke...we went through the same thing @ the same time...Miley I love you!!! Please let me meet you”. OK, not totally normal behaviour, but at least he said ‘please’. He’s also not been entirely stealthy about his impending plan to invade the Wrecking Ball singer’s dressing room, tweeting to her keyboardist “I’m probably gonna sneak backstage to see miley tomorrow...save me a trip to jail 1000 miles from home and help me out???”.
