Latin singer Jenni Rivera has gone missing after air traffic controllers in Mexico lost contact with the pilot of her plane early on Sunday morning (09Dec12).

The Mexican-American star boarded a private flight from Monterrey after performing there on Saturday night (08Dec12), but officials from Mexico's transportation ministry fear the plane may have crashed after losing communication with pilots about 10 minutes after take off.

The aircraft's two pilots and four other passengers have also been reported missing.

Local authorities have launched a search to locate the Learjet 25, which was en route to Toluca, just outside of Mexico City.

Rivera, 43, was born and raised in Long Beach, California, and rose to fame in 1999 with songs in the Mexican nortena and banda-style of music.

The mother-of-five has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and has landed multiple Latin Grammy Award nominations.

She was also a savvy businesswoman and owned her own music, cosmetics and fashion companies, and she moved into the world of reality Tv last year (11) with the premiere of I Love Jenni.
