Oscar-winning director Jane Campion is to take charge of the jury at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival in France.
The Piano moviemaker, who is the only woman to have won the festival's coveted Palme d'Or award, will oversee the panel at this year's (14) event, taking over from Hollywood mogul Steven Spielberg, who was in charge of the 2013 jury.
Campion says of the honour, "Since I first went to Cannes with my short films in 1986 I have had the opportunity to see the festival from many sides and my admiration for this Queen of film festivals has only grown larger. At the Cannes film festival they manage to combine and celebrate the glamour of the industry, the stars, the parties, the beaches, the business, while rigorously maintaining the festival's seriousness about the art and excellence of new world cinema."
The news comes a year after Campion was handed a special award at the festival, the Carrosse d'Or, from the Society of Film Directors. She also served as head of the short film jury at Cannes in 2013.
The 2014 event kicks off on 14 May (14).
