Jamie Foxx wants to ''do things right'' by Tom Cruise.

The 'Ray' actor has reportedly been secretly dating Katie Holmes for the last two years and he wants to properly break the news and explain his relationship to the brunette beauty's ex-husband - who she split from in 2012 - in person because they used to be friends.

A source said: ''Jamie and Tom don't speak as much as they once did but Jamie would like to do things right and tell Tom in person.''

However, Tom - who has eight-year-old daughter Suri with Katie - is unlikely to be surprised by the news as he has heard rumours of the romance and is said to be ''saddened''.

The source told Grazia magazine: ''Tom is understandably saddened.

''Katie and Tom don't speak directly anymore but it's upsetting because he and Jamie were great friends and he introduced them...

''Katie and Jamie are the talk of Hollywood and Tom would have to have been living under a rock not to have heard the rumours.

''The three of them used to hang out together when Tom and Katie were married, so it's a bit weird for him. When they were first linked in 2013, he refused to believe it.''
