Following the terrorist attack in Westminster that made headlines around the world, chat show host James Corden took the time to pay tribute to the victims of the attack and explain how it felt as a British expatriate.

The 38 year old British comedian has lived and worked in Los Angeles for the last two years since he took over presenting duties on ‘The Late Late Show’, and took the time to acknowledge the atrocity committed near the Houses of Parliament in London earlier on Wednesday (March 22nd).

“There was a terror attack today in my hometown - the city of London - in Westminster,” he said in a piece to camera while filming the latest episode of his show.

“While we’re filming this, it’s still unknown what the motives were. What we do know at this point is that people have lost their lives and many, many more have been injured.”

At the time of writing, it is believed that a black-clad assailant, acting alone, drove his car through a crowd of people on Westminster Bridge before stabbing an armed police officer to death in the grounds of Parliament before he was shot and restrained, before dying of his injuries. Three other innocent people are known to have died, with dozens more injured, many of them seriously.

“Watching the news today, I felt a really long, long way from home,” Corden explained. “When something like that happens in your hometown, you don’t have a feeling of being glad that you’re so far away, what you feel is that you wish you could be there with loved ones to stand alongside them.”

The attack is the worst terrorist incident to have hit London since the July 7th bombings back in 2005, in which co-ordinated bombers attacked tube and bus links.

“London is a diverse and proud and brilliant city,” Corden said in tribute to the capital, “and one thing is for sure: If this act of terrorism was supposed to divide the people of London, I know for a fact that all something like this does is bring them closer together as one. Tonight, we send our heartfelt thoughts to everybody in Britain. Stay safe.”
