The Bond film has beaten Harry Potter to the top sport of highest first week takings.
'Spectre' breaks box office records with over £40 million ($60 million) in takings from its first week - and that's just in the UK! With numbers like that, it's particularly hard to believe Daniel Craig is considering leaving the franchise of his own accord.
'Spectre' is predictably a record breaker
Unsurprisingly, the hotly anticipated new James Bond film has spectacularly surpassed the success of predecessor 'Skyfall' on its opening day, taking in a record-breaking £6.3 million to 'Skyfall''s £6.2 million ($9.6 million). But now it's broken the record for the highest takings at the UK box office in the first week, beating Alfonso Cuarón's 2004 film 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'.
Plus, the movie managed to exceed £52 million ($80 million) in global sales ahead of its opening in the US. It's not, however, managed to match the popularity of the year's biggest movie so far. 'Jurassic World' still reigns supreme after its unbelievable £320 million ($500 million) worldwide opening weekend. That film still stands as the third highest-grossing film of all time, with $1.6 billion ($2.5 billion) in box office revenue (just below 1997's 'Titanic' at number two and 2009's 'Avatar' at number one).

On the other hand, 'Spectre' still has a handful of other world records to its name. Stunt coordinator Gary Powell previously confessed that they set a record for destroying cars in the 24th Bond film (namely in Rome), while theme song 'Writing's On The Wall' written by Sam Smith became the first ever Bond theme to reach number one in UK charts.

As yet, it remains uncertain what to expect from the upcoming landmark 25th movie. Whether director Sam Mendes will sign on for another car-smashing epic is a mystery, and Daniel Craig can't seem to make up his mind whether he wants to return or not. Only time will tell.
