Even though Jake Bugg is given huge backing by the Mercury Record label – a subsidiary of Universal – and had money flung at his marketing campaign in order to get his debut album to number one in the UK, he still seems to be trying to convince anyone listening that he’s making ‘real music,’ whereas those horribly manufactured, fake One Direction boys are complete frauds. Erm, Jake, you might want to take a step back and look at your own career for a bit first eh?

The beef between the two sides is escalating after Bugg attacked One Direction on Twitter, only to get the pretty hilarious reply from the group’s Louis Tomlinson “Hi @JakeBugg do you think slagging off boy bands makes you more indie?” We’ve got to hand it to Tommo there, that was a prime sucker punch.

Jake Bugg

We thought that light was Jake Bugg's sense of self-satisfaction, turns out they were just stage lights

However, at the NME Awards the 18 year-old Bugg apparently wanted a bit more, and talking to The Sun he fumed "I don't know how they can really be considered a band though to be honest.” Pushed further on his opinion on them, he commented "They're there to look good,” before adding "Music wise? I assume they don't really have a clue. We'll just see. They might do." The dreary teenager however did lose out at the NME Awards; nominated for both best solo artist and best album, he walked away empty handed. One Direction’s Harry Styles however won the, um, Villain Of The Year. “And thank you to @NME for my award tonight. Gotta take the rough with the smooth eh?” The star tweeted gracefully. Doesn’t sound like a villain to us.
