Rocker Jack White's long-standing feud with Black Keys star Dan Auerbach appears to be at the centre of his custody battle with ex-wife Karen Elson - because he doesn't want their kids attending the same school as the Lonely Boy hitmaker's daughter, Sadie.

Model Elson has obtained a restraining order against her former husband over allegations he has targeted her with angry emails sparked by decisions about their daughter Scarlett and son Henry Lee's education and choice of Nashville, Tennessee school.

According to court documents, obtained by The Nashville City Paper, White allegedly pressured Elson to remove the kids from the school they attended with the child of an unnamed Nashville-based entertainer, who the former White Stripes star accused of copying his music.

Emails submitted to the court to support that motion reveal the rival is the Black Keys singer-guitarist, who relocated to Nashville in 2010.

One reads: "My concern with Auerbach is because (sic) I don't want the kids involved in any of that c**p. That's a possible 12 f**king years I'm going to have to be sitting in kids chairs next to that a**hole with other people trying to lump us in together. He gets yet another free reign to follow me around and copy me and push himself into my world."

White, who split from Elson in 2011 after six years of marriage, has been a longtime critic of Auerbach and the Black Keys, claiming the guitarist and bandmate Patrick Carney had copied the music and moniker idea of his own former duo The White Stripes.

Meanwhile, in a court filing on Friday (02Aug13), White responded to his wife's restraining order bid by denying claims he threatened her and asked the court to establish a temporary parenting plan.

The rocker stated he will not oppose the temporary restraining order, but took exception to rules about communications with his kids.

White's attorney Cathy Speers Johnson revealed the singer was upset about Elson's decision to keep their two children longer than he agreed to during a recent trip.

She writes, "The reason for filing this response is that Mr. White does not want to be portrayed as something he is not, violent to his wife or children."

Among his documents filed on Friday were emails from his ex, in which she told him he was a great father.
