Summer Sundae, Leicester De Montford Hall 17-19 August 2012 Live Review


With London's hosting of the Olympics many festivals have had to step outside of their comfort zone. Some, Glastonbury being the largest example, have simply decided to call it a year, whilst others have rescheduled in an attempt to lessen the impact of a decline in audience before the consideration of economic factors. Although not directly affected by the Olympics' timetable, 2012's edition of Summer Sundae found itself amongst an unusually congested weekend of activities including Green Man, Strummer Of Love and the nearby Beacons Festival, and its organisers decided the best course of action was a step back and a slight left turn.

Summer Sundae, De Montfort Hall, Leicester Live Review


On its tenth anniversary Summer Sundae, the crown jewel in the Midlands festival schedule, is showing no signs of slowing down. The weekender is an annual pilgrimage for many in the surrounding area (and for Contacmusic.com) and has built a reputation on mainstream, family friendly headliners and an eclectic undercard. This year's headliners may be underwhelming when compared to 2009's choices; Seasick Steve, Tinchy Stryder and Mumford & Sons being this years counterparts of The Streets, The Charlatans and The Zutons, but there is still enough across the sites four stages to attract interest.
