Biography

Daniel Merriweather (born 1982)
Daniel Merriweather is an Australian R&B / pop singer who initially came to public attention when he sang on Mark Ronson's cover of The Smiths' 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before'.

Childhood: Daniel Merriweather was raised in Melbourne, Australia.

At school, he learned to play violin. When he dropped out of school, he took singing lessons and decided to focus on music.

Music Career: Daniel Merriweather's first solo single was released in 2004 and was entitled 'City Rules'. The track featured the vocal talents of the New York MC, Saigon. Merriweather's second solo single, 'She's Got Me' was also released in 2004 and was originally included on Mark Ronson's Here Come The Fuzz album. Both of these singles have become an underground club success, although they were not hugely successful at the time of their release. Mark Ronson had originally 'discovered' Daniel Merriweather when he was looking for somebody to provide backing vocals for Nikka Costa's album in 2001.

In 2007, Mark Ronson invited Daniel Merriweather to perform on his next album. Entitled Version, the album consisted of a series of cover versions. The track chosen for Merriweather to sing on was a cover of 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before' by Morrissey's former band, The Smiths. The song became a massive commercial success and reached number two in the UK singles chart.

Mark Ronson has produced Daniel Merriweather's debut album, entitled Love and War. The album will feature contributions from the Melbourne-based rapper Phrase. In December 2008, Merriweather debuted the first single from the album - entitled 'Change' - on BBC Radio 1's Chris Moyles show.

Daniel Merriweather has performed a number of live shows, opening for artists such as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Biz Markie. He also headlined the 'City Rule' tour, which also featured the artists P-Money and Scribe. In 2007, he performed alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra with Mark Ronson at the BBC Electric Proms. In June 2008, Ronson and Merriweather performed at a very muddy Glastonbury festival in England.
